3rd gen collection about 3/4 complete!

I love the 3rd gen beanies. I posted a few months ago when I just had a few - and I’ve since grown the collection a bit more. By my count, I think I have 18 more to go before my collection is complete, but it’s getting a lot harder (and some interesting ones I didn’t think would be super challenging - like the red Digger and Spot)! Good thing I love the hunt. 🤩

Full QB App Walkthrough!

Hello Questies! I’m a former director of admissions at Swarthmore (and a former AO at Vanderbilt), and I worked with thousands of QB students over the years. I also coordinated the entire process, including reading and NCM selection, so I wanted to share what I learned as a college admissions officer with you.

I just posted a nearly two hour video (with video chapters!) walking you through the entire QuestBridge application from start to finish. Not only do I go through virtually every question they ask, but I also provide commentary on why it’s being asked and how AOs are interpreting your answer. It’s my longest video on YouTube - by far - but as you know, the QB app is a beast!

Please check it out and return to it often as you work your way through the application. I did a Common App walkthrough as well that can find on my channel. Best of luck with the QB process! (And thanks to the moderators for asking me to post this!)

Restarted my collection!

As a millennial, I was in 6th grade when the craze started in my little Wisconsin town. I probably had a few hundred beanies by the end of middle school… and then I got older and became less interested. They’re all gone - maybe a garage sale? I can’t remember. Fast forward to my forties, and I’m ready to start again! I always loved the 3rd gen hang tags. I only had one (Ears) in middle school - found it at a coin collection store, and the clerk had no idea what he was. I think I got him for $8. They’re more challenging to find now (without beanie baby collectible stores, which were everywhere!), and there are counterfeits of course, but it’s been fun to hunt the real ones down!

College Fly-Ins: Why They REALLY Matter

Hey everyone! I just posted a new YT video on my channel (@askdrhoffman) all about college fly-in programs, and I’d love for you all to watch. I was director of admissions at Swarthmore and an AO at Vanderbilt, and I not only coordinated both our fly-in process and QuestBridge, but I read thousands and thousands of fly-in applications over the last two decades. Please consider watching my new video posted this morning - and then download my entire fly-in list (which also includes some colleges that offer travel stipends to visit). I hope this helps, and I’m also thinking about developing a QB video that focuses on admissions/QB behind the scenes. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/Ho0ZfkJbuiA
