My son is a summer 5 year old. Kinder thoughts?
My son turned 5 on May 30th. I did not send him to school in August as I planned to homeschool. He has done minimal ABA as we didn’t see a benefit. He is very smart about his interests but we still struggle with numbers, abc & attention. He does not know how to write his name. Our dev pediatrician says we are going to probably look at AuDHD. He is very busy and stims a lot. He used to elope but does not now until today we went to visit the school he will go to. Gen ed classroom for now with a 504 in place and awaiting IEP. He is pretty okay unless he gets bored and during transitions which is why we did the 504 first to give extra time for transitions and such. He is potty trained minus stool sometimes as he deals with severe encopresis that we have been addressing for months. I’m worried I’m sending him
Too early due to his inability to stay still and follow directions well but my husband thinks he should go and that he adapts well. The new special education director seems to be pushing me to wait til next year but the old special education director who just left this year after 10 years there says to send him & that his teacher he was placed with is phenomenal and will be good for him. I’m just scared and my mom heart is so torn. Today he tried to run out of the main doors from my hand when leaving. We do have angel sense. I’m also worried since it’s a big class around 23 that he will be overwhelmed. It’s a long day 7:30 bell and 3:30 dismissal. He’s never done that and they don’t offer any transitional time/days. I’m torn because he wants to make friends but how do I know if he is ready?
