Happy Aphelion day!

Happy Aphelion day!

Aphelios is likely named after (or at least inspired by) the Greek term "Aphelion" which literally translates to "Away from the sun". Today is known as Aphelion day which means today the earth is the furthest away from the sun that the earth will be this entire year.

It's only fitting that on the day that we are so far from our source of life and joy, the sun, that we celebrate Aphelios, who is perpetually in Aphelion from his sister, Alune.

Give our tragic twins some extra love and playtime today, today is their day.

How do I play Aphelios micro

Hey! To preface this, I'm a low Elo player but I tend to gravitate towards characters that have complexity and sell a cool fantasy. Aphelios totally fit the bill so over the past couple of months I've been trying to do everything I need to in order to learn Aphelios. I got weapon rotations down, I'm even pretty consistent at predicting teamfigths and ensuring I'm on the right weapons at the right time. The problem is that for all the knowledge in the world I'm getting shafted in teamfights. It happens the same way every time, a team breaks out, I start positioning along the back line trying to play front to back, and I get jumped by an assassin, master yi, warwick ulted etc. My team will be busy collapsing on a squishy and the enemies specialized in taking down a bunch of squishies will immediately collapse on me in return. Even when I manage to pump out enough damage before I die to turn the teamfight around I end up dying every single teamfight.

My friend suggested going boots of swiftness so I could kite around better, but the problem isn't that I can't kite during a teamfight, the problem is getting jumped by characters I simply cannot out-kite. No matter my movement speed, I'm not gonna be able to outrun assassins with three dashes, master yi with ult up or a Warwick with a blood scent. Should I make sure my team peels me more in these cases? Or could I probably be positioning better? I'm not entirely used to marksmen in general, and I feel so incredibly vulnerable. Mages at least have CC to peel for themselves, other classes have defensives even if they may be situational like a windwall or a basic attack evade. On Aphelios (unless I happen to be on red for movement speed or purple for CC) I have absolutely nothing to protect myself with besides a flash and a barrier.

How do I get better at teamfigthing? I feel like I focused so much on the complexer parts of Aphelios, that I neglected simpler things.

Bonus question: What are some good items to build on Aphelios? I prefer not to blindly follow guides and they all suggest different things (which of course makes sense, there's not a single catch-all answer). Was boots of swiftness a good call from my friend? What should be the first item I aim for?

Thanks in advance!

Weapon rotation prepping and situational swapping

Hey! I'm nog a huge marksman fan but due to circumstances I am now a botlaner! I'm actually enjoying the lane, but I found every marksman champ except Quinn (not really a botlaner), Akshan (same as quinn), Kayle (again, not a botlaner) and Aphelios either boring, or I wasn't really buying whatever fantasy/vibe the character was selling.

So I decided it was gonna have to be Aphelios as my primary.

I've been having succes with him, I learned how to properly rotate my weapons and even fix mistakes in my rotation, so I'm kind of cruising right now. I do struggle with two things. As I understand it weapon rotation is Green > Blue > Purple > Red > White for the first 16-ish minutes, and then around 2 items blue and purple switch places

  1. How do I prepare for teamfights? What if dragon is about to come up and I JUST got red/blue? Do I stop farming just so I have those guns for the teamfight? How do you manage this in general? Should I use abilities extra often to speed things up? Can someone give me some helpful pointers on this?
  2. Are there any sitatuations in which I wanna deviate from the standard Green > Purple > Blue > Red > White? I heard for example that when you're being pushed in really hard and you have to play defensively that the cursed red/purple combination might actually be beneficial? Is that true, are there any situations in which you want to change your combination around? Or is it kind of set and forget?

Worst Yasuo botlane matchups

Hey! I looked all over for more information about matchups, but all I can find is top/midlane matchup discussions.

I've been absolutely loving Yasuo botlane and I want to start climbing on it to see how far I'm gonna get. For those with more experience playing Yasuo botlane, what are some matchups I should absolutely avoid playing into? I'm talking about the kind of matchups that would make you switch to a more traditional marksman just to avoid it.

In not so many words, which matchups should I avoid/ban at all times on the botlane?

Thanks in advance!

Should my secondary be an easy champion?

Hey! I've recently been playing a lot of Yasuo botlane. Specifically after getting fed up facing off against mages in a bunch of matches in a row, and I've been really enjoying it. I love complex champions and I was wondering if it's feasible for me to have another high skill character as my secondary, assuming I get enough practice on both.

I love playing Aphelios but I don't vibe enough with marksman characters to play them every single match and though I know how to do weapon rotation and plan my weapon rotation just fine, I was wondering if trying to keep up two complicated characters is kind of throwing?
Is your secondary supposed to be a simple pick so that you don't have to use your brain?

Does anyone here double up on complicated characters? If so, what are your experiences?
