The snapshot is not overwritten if you request the free equipment, don't be afraid of losing your stuff
Reading various posts, I realized that many users seem not to have understood how the new insurance system works.
When you modify the ship's equipment via the mobiglass, or manually with the tractor, later if you want to save the ship with that equipment you have to take a snapshot from the fleet manager. Each time you request the paid claim, you will receive the ship exactly as it is configured in the snapshot.
If you don't want to spend money or you don't have enough money you can request the stock equipment for free, this does not overwrite the snapshot, it remains valid until it is overwritten by the user.
Don't be afraid of losing your finishes or your paints, you can request them at any time, even after requesting the free claim one or more times
