Hey guys, I’m swapping out my 7 year old battery on my KTM and got a battery which autozone said fit our bike, but the positive terminal isn’t on the correct side. Is it possible the terminals in my bike were flipped somehow? When facing the terminals, the positive terminal on the battery should be on the left side but it’s on the right. Thanks!!
Title speaks for itself. Bought a 2026 RS660 on 3/30 and 2550 miles later engine is cooked. Aprilia is going to cover an entirely new engine on warranty, but the tech I spoke with made sure to let me know they were of the opinion that it was my fault. He explained to me that I blew the engine when going to hard on the bike when it’s oil was too low, and that it was my responsibility to check the oil level any time I planned on going like 120+
I don’t know what to even think of that. I did the first 600 miles without getting over 7500 once, and stayed under 9500 until 1200 miles. I got the break in service performed by the dealership 3 weeks after I bought the bike (800 miles), started breaking the 9500 rpm threshold like 10 days after that once I passed 1200 miles, and then 25 days after that point the engine is blown...
I literally cannot believe that I depleted my oil 2 damn quarts in like 3.5 weeks. I ride spirited but in what I’d consider to be a reasonable and non prolonged matter .. quick pulls on highways I know well when visibility is high and no cars are present. Never really ripped it in lower gears either, always a smooth acceleration curve. I’ve NEVER touched redline but came close. When I ride I do commonly get the blinking white lights on some pulls and get to high speeds, but never redline and I don’t stay at that speed.
I didn’t get a single code that said I had low oil level … I love this bike so much, if I saw any light related to engine or oil I’d have immediately addressed it. I checked my oil but the dipstick is so hard to read and I did see that the oil was low, but I thought it was still within the dipstick levels it was supposed to be between. I was planning on doing an oil change at 3.5k miles since I knew I ride spirited. But DAMN, I just can’t believe it blew before reaching that.
I ride with a guy who has a 2014 gsxr600 and that man is a lunatic, he exists at high speeds high rpm and he didn’t even change his oil this season, riding hard af for like 30 mins at a time, been doing that this whole time I had my bike and his shit isn’t blown up!! I told him I blew mine up and he lol’d and I couldn’t blame him.
At least it’s warrantied and I have another bike to use for now, but I’m a very sad camper rn. Going to try to get the information the dealership reported to Aprilia when making the claim so I can understand the situation better.
The tech told me it’ll be 1-2 months before I get back on the road with a new engine, but I’m really scared of getting back in this bike. My state has a strong lemon law against manufacturers and I’m thinking about using it, but would have to prove that it was the fault of the manufacturer for this critical failure to prevail. I don’t want to piss off aprilia and have them try to retaliate by being like okay no engine for you then, but the lemon law in my state can technically put me in a brand new rs660 / full purchase price returned and I may just prefer that.

I bought an rs660 about 2 months ago and have put on 2.5k miles and it started making this sound. I’ve ridden it fast but nothing crazy, followed breakin rules, did my 600 mile service at the Aprilia dealership I bought it at, never even stalled once. I noticed it randomly and then took it to dealer a day or two later. They agree the engine obviously sounds off. Drained the oil and said it ate two quarts since my 600 mile service which I did at like 800 miles not even a full month ago. Good news is that the oil didn’t have metal in it. Also never emitted smoke, never overheated, never leaked oil, never put on a check engine light, and rides smooth as butter despite the sound.
Dealership going to tell me more tomorrow but wanted to share with yall geniuses to see if anyone had any idea of how fucked my poor RS is.
