Aprillia tuono v4 or factory

Hey guys, I’m looking into buying the Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory. Is it worth the extra money compared to the normal version?

Walked away from a demo a bit confused

I attended an Aprilia Demo day last weekend with the intention of mainly riding the Tuono V4 as a near future replacement for my Street Triple R, and also the Tuono 660 Factory just for shits and giggles. Been riding 19 years and owned 11 bikes. First of all, the Aprilia and Piaggio people were fantastic to deal with. Super cool guys with a crazy amount of racing experience between them.

Not sure if it’s one of those “meeting your hero” scenarios, as I’ve wanted to ride the V4 Tuono for over 10 years. But I stepped off the gorgeous scorpion yellow V4 a bit bewildered and confused. First of all, sure it is unrelentingly fast and exhilarating. And that’s coming from somebody whose daily ride is a fully tuned Connie 1400. The character and the experience is where I struggled a bit. In some ways, it had less character than I was expecting. Sure it had a stock exhaust and an aftermarket would help a lot. The engine characteristics were a lot more polished and weren’t quite as raw as I was expecting. But in contrast was the transmission. It seemed extremely loud, very clunky, and agricultural. The quickshifter hit a half false neutral at WOT before eventually moving itself into second without my intervention and spooking me a bit. Could the transmission be a bit beat on as a demo unit? Potentially. I just stepped off the thing totally confused on what I thought about it. I expected to be a lot more wowed.

I decided to ride the Tuono 660 Factory since I was there but I went into the ride not having high hopes. HOLY CRAP. That thing is a total riot. I had so much fun riding that little bike. Outside of some really vibey handlebars, I was really impressed. The engine was characterful and torquey. The transmission seemed less clunky and loud. The front end feel was wonderful. I’m not sure if it’s a big enough upgrade over my current Street Triple R to spend that kind of money on a new bike, but I could definitely see myself picking one of these up used down the road.

I know this is an Aprilia group so the answer is probably a resounding no, but did anybody else struggle a bit after riding the v4???

2021 Tuono V4 Oil leak after oil change

Bike has about 7000 miles, always properly serviced but also ridder hard as fuck in all weathers.

This time I've done the oil change myself for the first time on this bike, it took full 4 litres to get it up to a proper level.

I had two short spins and noticed that there is no leak under the filter but small drop under the drain bolt which I was just about to tighten to proper spec when I've noticed this leak on the left side of the engine.

As soon as I took the bottom fairing I've notcied dirt on left side and then on bottom left engine cover as well. When I looked behind the manifolds there were some oil drops on the rubber hoses and as high as exhaust manifold.

Did I simply overfill the oil? What is the best way of dealing with this now?

RS660… how old is too old?

55yo male, currently ride a BMW R1250RT and a Versys 1000, have always been a sport bike focused rider and have been trying to get into sport touring machines but it’s not scratching the sport bike itch. Thinking of trading the Versys out for an RS, am I nuts?

Insert Code Issue

Hey I’m having an issue with my 2018 Tuono v4 that I need help solving:

Out of nowhere this warning popped up on my screen and keeps coming up each time I put my key in. I do not know the code and neither does the previous owner.

I’ve tried 00000 which is meant to be the default but no luck there.

I have the spare key but that doesn’t make any difference.

When I say it came out of nowhere I really mean it - I rode it literally yesterday and had no issues.

If any of you have experience with this issue or know what could be the solution please help me out!

2025+ vs Leftover 2024

Been thinking about the Aprilia lineup overall, was originally looking at RS 660 vs RSV4. My background has been on a 2004 Yamaha R6, riding a friends pre cross plane R1 and Ninja 636 and 650r. I would mainly be riding street, with an interest in track, but reality is, I wouldn't frequent the track enough to consider it a main use factor. I have a short 29/30" inseam as well, 5'7 which makes moving bikes a challenge, so ergos really matter since I'm mostly on the street.

Sat on the RS 660 and I could get the balls of my feet down, but the tank felt really wide, especially at the top when resting my arms (assuming a tucked position). The RSV4 had me really on the big toe of either foot for point of contact at best, so I felt the least comfortable, which worries me from emergency stopping or cross wind/navigating short radius turns/backing up at a stop and dropping the bike. I randomly sat on a Yamaha R7 which felt even more comfortable and narrower width when compared to the 660 and the Ninja ZX4rr which is the smallest and most comfy. (just for comparison sake)

They also had a leftover 2024 Tuono V4 base for $5k off at $12k, I know there were changes to the 25/26 models, but would the savings make up for the price?

- How would you compare traditional inline 4s of the Japanese variety to the parallel twin engine?

- I'm 99% sure the RS 660 would be more than enough bike for me and my needs, but the V4 engine just sounds so amazing. I can't help but feel I would regret not having it; but are liter bikes truly overkill/unusable on the street? I see so many nowadays compared to 600's so what gives or are they mostly stop light to stop light owners who never expose the chicken strips?

- If I were to go the RSV4 route, are suspension changes truly ruining the bikes riding ability if I just wanted to lower maybe another inch to at least get more surface area of my foot to touch down for low speed maneuvers?

- I know the handle bars are more upright, but is the overall character of the Tuono still a sport bike? I am confused with the more upright positioning vs the race sport bike with low clip ons and full fairings; does this mean more ppl who ride street should be on naked bikes that can perform well and provide additional comfort vs the amount of ppl who ride full fairing sport bikes who should be doing more track to fully exploit their race heritage bikes?

2013 Tuono V4

21,000 miles and still running strong. The growl at start-up and thunderous rumble at idle pulling into parking garages still give me the biggest smiles!

Is the Aprilia RS660 comfortable enough?

For context, I started riding on a Ninja 500 and have gotten used to it. Although, I’ve really been thinking of upgrading to a bigger bike so I recently rented out a ZX6R to try out the position but I really feel uncomfortable with the supersport rider position. Ive always looked at the RS660 as a possibility for upgrade, but trying out a supersport made me sort of fear if the RS660 will be similarly as uncomfortable. Any thoughts on the comfort of the RS660?

Tuono V4 Radiator Guard

I'm looking to get a radiator guard for my 23 Tuono V4 but I'm curious how difficult the installation is. Has anyone installed one? Would you recommend one brand over another? How easy or hard was it to install?

Thanks!

Should I buy this 2023 rsv4 factory?

So a little background on me, I’ve been going to the track for about 10 years. My current track bike is a Ducati V2. I am frustrated at the flat spot in between 5 to 7KRPM a friend of mine who owns a motorcycle dealership is giving me a crazy deal on this beautiful bike $18,046 out the door with only 1600 miles do you think this is a good deal? Those who track their RSV4 how do you like it? I tried the 23 Ducati V4 and I did not like the ergonomics with my short stature (I’m only 5 foot eight). The Aprilia felt way more flickable for me and wasn’t such a struggle like the V4. PS the Bike has a Leo Vince Exhaust, and it has to be the best sounding bike I’ve ever heard. I love the Exhaust note.

Question about wheels

Hello recently purchased a 2026 (US) aprilia tuono v4 factory and some people told me it comes with cast aluminum wheels and some say it comes with forged aluminum wheels, was wondering which it actually came with because if it’s cast wheels I would want to buy aftermarket ones, and if it is cast wheels any recommendations on which ones to get? Thank you
