My wife and I are both 22 and are just getting started with our investing journey. We’re both pretty frugal and have agreed on a budget that will allow us to save $400k in the span of 5 years to use a down payment on our first house.
We’re currently maxing out both of our Roth IRAs, matching our companies 401k, and have an emergency savings account already in place.
As we save this money for our first mortgage, would it be best to put this money in a generic brokerage account invested in the S&P, an HYSA, or somewhere else?
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I recently moved to a different apartment and decided to get Xfinity's $50 for 1 gig wi-fi and mobile line. However, when I tried to transfer my Xfinity mobile line from my previous address to my current one with the free line, I was told I'd have to change my number. This is frustrating, is there anyway to get my number transferred? I'm currently paying $32 for my mobile line that's connected to my old address and $50 for wi-fi at my current address that has a free line open.
I’m 22, married to the girl of my dreams, making $65k a year and wanting to join the Coast Guard. I’m mainly interested in the Coast Guards DCE program, which would allow me to join as an Ensign upon completing training.
Will this decision put a cog in my financial potential? I feel if I stay civilian I’ll have more opportunities to possibly make more money at some point, but the Coast Guards DCE program just seems like too good of an opportunity to pass up (mainly for benefits, experience, etc.).
Edit: Appreciate the replies, I'm definitely more convinced that this is the path for me. Thanks.
I’m 23, just graduated with a CS degree, currently starting a data analyst job in Maryland at $65k. I’m seriously considering applying to OCS.
For anyone who came from a tech/CS background, do you regret to not staying in the private sector or has the CG been worth it financially and lifestyle-wise?
Just wanted to say how unbelievable Xfinity customer service is. I recently noticed that my bill increased from $40/month to $75/month due to my special offer ending. So, I spoke with an agent online and within 5 minutes, they were able to knock down my plan to $45/month and give me free unlimited data for a whole year.
A few weeks later I was about to fly to Italy and realized my plan requires me spend $10/day for data roaming abroad. I reached out to Xfinity support again and the agent upgraded my plan for free to include free data roaming abroad. And, not only that, they knocked my plan fees down to just $30/month. I’ve seriously never had as great of a customer service experience with anyone other than Xfinity. I’ve convinced both of my parents to leave T-Mobile due to how well Xfinity’s customer service team is.
This isn’t sponsored or anything, I’m just a normal dude who can’t believe how good their support is.
Shoutout to Xfinity
- A forever customer
