Is it worth going/staying downtown?

My wife and I are headed to Newport for her sister’s birthday in early August. We’ll be flying into Providence on a Thursday night, landing at 9:45pm. We’re staying in town and picking up our car from the airport the next morning.

At most, we would just want to see what downtown looks like and catch a late night meal, but we’re open to staying on property at the airport and calling it a night too.

What would you guys do if you were in our shoes? Is there maybe a good late-night restaurant within walking distance of a decent hotel you can recommend? By the time we get downtown and check into the hotel, I doubt we’ll be able to be at any restaurant before 10:30pm.

All advice and suggestions appreciated!

Edit: thanks everyone for the advice. Lots of good info here! Sorry I didn’t get back to everyone, but I did read all the comments. Seems like it’s 50/50 for the most part. We’re leaning towards heading into downtown and staying at a hotel there. We may never make it back to Providence (or at least it could be a very long time); it would be a shame to not even see it.

Homeless man who dances on US1

Does anyone have information on the homeless man who can typically be found either on the east intersection of US1 and Sunrise (by the Gateway theater) or in Holiday Park, who holds a sign that says “smile” and is most often dancing to music he listens to in headphones?

He’s short, black, and on the larger side. He carries a big black backpack and has been in this area for a few years now.

I’m genuinely curious about him and his story. Unfortunately I’ve really only seen him when driving by so I don’t have the opportunity to talk to him. He seems extremely happy and friendly. Also doesn’t appear to be obviously on drugs.

I think he may also frequent the Starbucks across from Galleria; I’ve seen him sitting outside there once.

2 Series Gran Coupe Owners - LED DRL Issues?

My wife has a 2020 228i x-drive with the LED daytime running lights. While the car was under CPO warranty, one of the LED DRLs went bad and the dealer said there’s no way to fix it without replacing the whole headlight, so that’s what they did.

Fast forward to a month after the warranty ends and the other DRL fails, of course now we have to pay to replace the other headlight. It’s over $2k and I don’t want to get a used headlight because this will just happen again.

Now that I’m looking out for this, I’ve actually noticed 4 other cars in my area that are driving around with one DRL out. Seems like an extremely common issue for this model.

Two questions for you all with this vehicle:

- Have you had the same LED DRL issue with your car?

- are you aware of any method to fix it without replacing the whole headlight?

Thanks in advance!
