Automomous Workpod Pro First Impressions

Just had a workpod pro installed in my backyard. Here are my first impressions:

Ordering:

- Super smooth

- Great customer support. I at one point thought I would need to cancel and they had initiated the cancellation, but then I found out I would be able to go through with the purchase, so they were able to stop the cancellation without affecting the delivery date.

Shipping:

- Shipping was a little confusing. The date they tell you is when it will arrive in the US, not when it will be at your house. It's another week or two to ship to your house. This made me less confident in being able to install it myself before my personal deadline.

- I was able to work out with the carrier to pre-unpack the shipping crates (extra $500) since the crates require a large truck/trailer that wouldn't fit on my street. They packed all of the boxes into a box trailer. To be honest, it looked really half assed. But luckily nothing was damaged.

- The two guys drove all the way to the bay area from Riverside to drop off just one pod. Crazy.

Building:

- So... I was going to do this myself, but after seeing the two guys struggle with some of the boxes, I decided to hire a professional. Automomous customer support was awesome and was able to forward my contact info to an installer in the bay area right away. It was built not even a week later.

- I am so happy I went with this installer. He and his team were super professional. The job site had zero trash during or after the build. They put my hose back better than I had it. They used the cardboard from the boxes to protect the pod floor and or avoid stepping in dirt. And they did a fantastic job installing the pod.

- Day 1 was for the concrete footers. I had just a dirt pad, so I asked if he recommended anything to make it better. He said he could do 1cu ft footers for an extra cost, or he could do home depot pavers. I chose the footers. This adds a day or two for the concrete to cure.

- Day 2 was the structural parts. It took shape and was looking really nice.

- Day 3 was the sliding door, siding, roof, electrical, and waterproofing.

- It was so worth the price. I also didn't realize there was a warranty if you get it installed through them (you might be eligible if you take a bunch of photos and build it yourself). I would highly recommend having it installed, especially in the bay area with the contractor they use. 10/10

First impressions:

- I LOVE IT! The aesthetic is so much nicer than a tuff shed or a studio shed. And it is really spacious. I love the vaulted ceiling. The plywood interior is really nice. Everything feels really high quality.

- The door... Holy crap. It's heavy. It's smooth. And it is so satisfying to open, close, and lock. It's not your standard residential sliding glass door. It's quality.

- The fan is really loud. This is unfortunate because the pod also gets really hot. It was 75 out today and the pod was at least 85+ inside. I am going to need to find a solution to the heat by next summer. Probably a mini split. I'm worried though that a mini split would exceed my breaker capacity (I am out of space in my main panel). In the meantime I might try out a portable AC since there is a cabinet meant to house one.

- The step up to the little deck is a little higher than I thought it would be. I will need to build a step at some point. No big deal.

- My plan to fit two desks will work. One caveat is that the sliding glass door opens from the side that has the windows, which is where I would like to put my desk. I wish it would open from the other side. I guess most people put their desks on the side without the windows, which is probably why it opens that way. I don't know if it can be flipped at install. Might be worth asking their customer support or the installer if you get one and want to put a desk on the window wall.

- The floor outlet... Why? It's in a really weird location. I would prefer it to be closer to the other windowless wall. My desk will be on the other side of the pod to the outlet. It's in a spot where I could end up tripping over it. I doubt I will have anything plugged into it. Maybe it can be moved at install time? Another question worth asking if you purchase one.

Overall I am super happy with this purchase. It has been a really smooth experience and will be well worth the money assuming no major issues arise. Not a whole lot to complain about except for the internal temperature issue, but that can be solved with some AC. I will have to see how it holds up over this next winter. It can get super windy here (30+mph winds). I will update this post if anything comes up. And I'll add some more photos once I've moved my office in. I think I will have a pretty cool setup when done.

Our prefab office project in San Antonio is officially complete. By engineering it at exactly 102 sqft, it bypasses local permit thresholds and requires no concrete foundation.

A closer look inside the 102 sqft outdoor office space - no permit

At this exact size, it falls right under the limit for most areas. Compact enough for tight spots, but doesn't feel cramped at all when you step in. Swipe to see the full exterior. The interior setup opens up with the desk and shelving.

Imagine pulling an 8-hour workday in this backyard home office. How do you feel?

Inside the Pod. How you can style a prefab office space?

Here are a few pod setups, complete with a desk, ergonomic chair, and minimal clutter. It’s crazy how much functionality you can pack into an outdoor office without losing that cozy vibe. If it were you, how would you setup this outdoor office space?

For contractors building backyard offices

I wanna share a dealer program that I think may fit with this sub, as you guys are working closely with the customers on site. If this is not suitable, just lmk and I will delete the post.

We have talked to many contractors who are building from-scratch office pods/sheds for their customers, and the problem is that some customers want the pod fast without waiting for months for permits and construction.

So we have this Pod dealer program, in which the pod is prefab, under 120 sq ft, requires no permits, and comes fully insulated and HVAC-ready/prewired.

  • You can sell a Pod and earn a 10% commission, a model is around $14.9k - $19.9k.
  • If you can install it, the installation fees are yours. One project can be $10k.

I'm Ethan with Autonomous WorkPod. So feel free to comment or DM me with any questions.

Garden office shed that fits small backyard and hillside spaces

Most traditional office shed for garden need a big backyard and a lot of construction work.

We take a different approach. We built a garden shed home office that fits the space you already have so you can have a seperate workspace

https://www.autonomous.ai/adus/autonomous-work-pod

With a compact footprint (around 80-105 sq ft), we have been installed in:

  • Small outdoor areas
  • Narrow side yards
  • Uneven ground
  • Hillside spaces

Any special site conditions when planning your outdoor workspace?

If you need help figuring out size fit, just DM me.

Finally - a backyard office your wife approves of

Summer's here. Kids home. You want a backyard office. She wants her space back and something beautiful in the yard (not a storage shed).

This solves it: https://www.autonomous.ai/adus/autonomous-work-pod

  • No more work calls bleeding into dinner
  • Stays cool in summer. HVAC + insulation keeps it comfortable while you work
  • This looks good. Wood interior, modern lines, glass walls with views
  • No renovation nightmare. 2-day install, NO PERMIT in most US cities

Show her this photo. Let me know what questions come up. I'm rooting for you!
