I just stared playing the game this week and just finished the ASW tutorial mission where it tasks you to find a soviet submarine with a P-3 at the end of the tutorial. I spend awhile dropping sonobuoys around the 10nm estimated location but I had no luck until I lowered altitude and used the MAD and detected the submarine very quickly despite the P-3 being further away from the submarine than a sonobuoy I dropped earlier (that was still functional). The submarine was at periscope depth for reference.

So, in your experiences, have you found that the MAD or sonobuoys are better at finding subs?

I don't own the game yet but I have seen a lot of game play and I am really interested in the setting, so I am thinking of buying it next sale. But, how good is the game's AI? Are they mindless drones or do they make a passable attempt to remain hidden (like using helicopter radars instead of the ship's radar), perform basic defensive maneuver (like warships presenting their side to incoming missiles so all of their CIWS can engage properly), are they threatening to the player, etc.?

I was wondering if the devs had mentioned anything about the state of the GHPC AI and if it is going to be improved.

I have played the game for about 40 hours and I love so many things about it but the AI has ruined my ability to enjoy it. friendly tanks a lot of the time can't even face their front armour at the enemy, struggle to path-find around destroy vehicles, have no object permanence, can't maneuver independently at all, leading to them getting destroyed in the open when they could reverse a few meters and be safe, and generally seem to be blinding following waypoints instead of having any sort of semi-autonomous behaviours.

I feel like if they could improve the AI, this game would be a masterpiece.
