Set up my 1998 CRTV purely for nostalgia gaming the original God of war. Can’t beat the audio visual differences not to mention the way the game content plays out running on a PS2. Here’s some photography of the experience.

I was feeling the urge to play Dragon Ball z so instead of downloading a digital version I just went up to my attic and dug up this old copy I’ve had for years and years (still works great) Never let them trash talk physical media.

Decided the best way to put my old CRTV to use was to play the original GTASA. The adaptations after this initial era did far too much revamping with graphics and a lot of the sound effects are missing or mishandled especially in the definitive edition. Only way to truly exist in San Andreas universe is the original. Here is some IRL GTA photography I captured while watching the opening loading screen.

Some Kingdom Hearts Nostalgic photography I captured while getting started with my 1998 Sony Trinitron CRT television & ps2 set up I’ve kept since the good old days and finally set it up. I’ve played kingdom hearts on manny consoles and for some reason this format hits different especially the cut scenes and music played on this old tv staticky speaker just produces a sound that modern speakers can’t really replicate. Great game and great memories coming back just starting this new play-through.

The indisputable definitive edition experience will always be existing in GTA Vice City utilizing the technology of its time in the format. It was originally intended to be played in. Something has seriously changed in the world of gaming and how we perceive games as well as technology. I feel as though we have lost our way in some regard, and it’s ashamed to think that when this technology eventually inevitably ages out of existence and no longer can just be dug out from somebody’s attic. All we will be stuck with is modern consoles and whatever television you can buy. I hope to preserve the past by keeping this old tech alive as long as i am able.

God of War on PS2 disk art is so distinct with its own identity compared to the modern iterations of the game (I am a huge fan of the entire franchise) nothing beats the original feel of physical media and all the bonus artifacts that come along with it.

One thing I always thought as a drawback in GTASA has always been how getting stuck in a mission essentially becomes a kneecapping roadblock the puts moving forward in the game in jeopardy however now that games often allow for work arounds I appreciate how San Andreas would feel satisfying the accomplishment would be once the mission was complete.

The original display of how this game was meant to be experienced. Interesting to think how much things have changed.

The best way I know how to play GTA vice city is my old tech setup I have recently retrieved from storage. Cool how the PS2 just works even after sitting in the attic for this long. Able to pick up right when I last existed the Vice city world like time just stood still all this time amazing feeling tbh might 100% the game again just for old times sake.

Something about the audio + visual combo of the CRTV and GTA sounds and graphics on the ps2 make for an unmatched vibe when just existing in the GTA world.

Back when buying a video game meant something. Contract this with the treatment and vibes of “buying” a digital copy. Never forget what we lost.

Wanted to capture the original feeling of GTA San Andreas so I set up my old tv and PS2. Took me a lot of effort digging this stuff out of the attic and setting it up again (tv was heavy and I had to bring it down from a hot attic to a place I could comfortably play.) Took a few restarts of the ps2 in order to get the disk read long enough to get about 2 minutes of gameplay before It all crashed. Good progress so far in my opinion. Pictures are just taken from an iPhone.

GTA vice city is a rare breed of game where you don’t feel the need to rush past parts. The fun comes from just participating in the world and hanging out. The game feels like it goes on forever because we actually want to spend time in its locations.

One of those rare games with locations you just want to sit in and take in the vibes. Most games put you in a state of mind of needing to get somewhere but San Andreas is of that rare breed where you have arrived.

The end of physical media meant an end to a certain kind of fan when it comes to those who enjoy movies and games. The gamer too a step in the direction of becoming just a consumer. We used to have cinema buffs now we have folks with thousands of hours of screen time logged into some streaming service.
In this COD commentary video Featuring Avery Yapps from his second channel AveryFromMA we discuss the digitization of media and the effects its had on the vibe of the fanbase surrounding these things.
Everyone talks about how we don’t get disks anymore but forgets we used to get a lot more like manuals and art design in the packaging.
