Motorbike suggestions (and what's important to know before buying one ?)
Hi everyone, especially if there's any Finnish/Northern Europeans on here.
I’m an international student from Asia, and I’ve been living in Finland (Helsinki) for the past two and a half years. I recently graduated, and lately I’ve been feeling pretty bored with too much free time, so I’ve been wanting to pick up a new hobby. Since my friends aren’t really interested in joining me for sports or other activities, I’m looking for something I can enjoy on my own.
One thing I’ve been seriously thinking about is getting back into riding motorbikes. I’ve always loved riding and found it really therapeutic, but ever since I moved to Finland, I haven’t had the chance to ride even once. Now that I’ve graduated, I’m considering buying a bike for myself as a graduation gift.
My budget is around €2,000 maximum, but ideally I’d like to spend less. I don’t have too many specific requirements. I’m mainly looking for something reliable and preferably fairly new. I’m not too concerned about engine size, and I’d actually prefer something smaller with good fuel economy, so even a 125cc bike would be perfectly fine.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations on what motorbikes I should consider in this price range, or what I should look out for when buying one in Finland.
Also, since this would be my first time owning a motorbike here, are there any things I should be aware of that might be different from other countries? For example, insurance, maintenance, seasonal issues, registration, or anything else that a first-time owner should know.
One more thing: I’m only planning to keep the bike for the summer and would likely want to sell it before winter starts. How easy is it to sell a bike in Finland, and when is the best time to sell it so I can avoid having too much money tied up in something I won’t be able to use during the winter?
Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thank you!
