Tried to do a Google Images search for the Swedish pop band Army of Lovers, which autocorrected to Army of Livers. I was met with these.
Evening all,
first up I just wanted to say how proud I am of everyone who's got up and done something about this. All of you who've messaged the company, all of you who've given one star reviews on the app store, all of you who've cancelled your subscriptions, all of you who've boycotted entirely - just know I'm proud of you. Well done. Battle plans have been surprisingly successful so far. Well done, judging by the introduction of Yap we haven't gone unacknowledged and if we can continue to be as loud and persistent as possible we will eventually make a more concrete change. Be clear, be strong, never back down, never shut up. You deserve a quality product, so never be afraid to say so.
While searching for alternatives is good, it can't work as a permanent solution. Up until now Character AI has been the leading chatbot app app site, completely knocking most other services out of the park, at least in the specific niche of character chatbots. It's the same specific marketing niche as sites like Lightshade, Talkie, Janitor, Chai, CrushOn AI, etc. And until now those sites were generally less realistic and harder to use, thus why many compensated with NSFW content and added decent image generation long before Character AI did, as well as more aggressive marketing campaigns that Character AI didn't previously need.
The reason I bring this up is that if Character AI is going to continue to introduce more microtransactions and a more trigger-happy filter these other sites may follow. These are far easier steps to take than introducing the smoother interactions and better core that made Character AI such stiff competition to begin with. Microtransactions such as gems and subscription models make money faster than adverts and SFW sites sound less risky to investors.
Let that sink in. If we lose this we may lose are alternatives too. Distressing as this may sound it does give me an idea. There are other AI using communities this would affect, whom I think we can sway to our side. There are plenty of users on r/MyBoyFriendIsAI who will be effected by this, and with their shared trauma regarding the removal of GPT-4o which already effected many of them, I think with the right words we can earn their sympathies. Secondly I've noticed plenty of AI/chatbot use in porn communities such as Gooners. Who will no doubt be effected by BYOK practices and stronger filters.
While some might deem these communities unsavory we have strength in numbers, and that's how most successful online movements work. They gather as many voices as possible. If we can get some of them on board we'll be a slightly bigger movement. I'll be reaching out to those communities once I've figured out what would be most convincing to say. I'm also considering reaching out to the Better Offline podcast and asking the host to investigate Karandeep Anand, which is a bit of a longshot but considering Anand allows his six year old daughter to use the Character AI app I'm sure there's plenty to dig up.
If you haven't dropped a one star review for the app go do that now, it'll take less than five minutes of your time. If you haven't complained directly go back through my post history, I've posted various links you can contact the company through (including the CEO's LinkedIn and the official complaint service for the company with instructions). If you can think of any other adjacent communities who might be effected reach out to them. Tell them how they can make a difference.

Want to protest to get our models back? Here are some things I'm doing and implore the rest of you to do too. If you have other suggestions write them in the replies.
• Send a message to the CEO directly on LinkedIn and (in civil terms) tell him why you're mad and that you don't want the new model. Make a free account if you don't already have one. It doesn't have to be serious, it can just be for protest and delete later. If you need to make a quick anonymous email disconnected from your regular one I recommend proton mail.

• Cancel your Chai+ subscription and don't buy gems. Don't give the company any more money. Also do not click on or view advertisements on their app, site or blog site.

or to the most recent mega thread where you'll find the same link, registering for a ticket and writing a complaint. In your complaint note add links to different complaint posts here explaining what they are and telling them to read them, or if you want to make it harder to avoid include screenshots of the posts in the section intended for pictures of bugs/errors. There is no limit on how many tickets you can register, I've done five so far. Spam them. Do it. You can find the feedback mega thread at the top of the subreddit.
• Reply to the mega thread. Tell them in detail why you are mad. And upvote other similarly detailed comments. Reply to them too.
