I didn't realize how many different kinds of spoons existed until I started collecting them
Entire utensil fell into the gravy again, handle and all
This one just happened to me so I thought I’d post.
Imagine you’re enjoying a nice meal, and you go to put your spoon down for a second, and it just slides into the sauce. Now the handle is covered in sauce.
And maybe you didn’t notice at first and you picked it up, and now your hands are sticky and full of sauce. And then maybe you shouted a truly offensive string of horrible things for 5 minutes straight in front of your in-laws. Or maybe you did notice the sauce-covered handle and picked it up to lick it off, but accidentally made weird eye-contact with your mother-in-law the entire time you were licking that utensil shaft.
Either way, your spouse has left with the kids and taken the house, and now you’re living on the dirty streets trading favors for silly pills under a bridge.
Suddenly I have a collection
I inherited a shoebox of old spoons that belonged to my mom and her mom before her. Sorted them tonight and found 56 marked Sterling, two .800 and one Taxco .980.
I ultimately plan to sell them, but I don’t want to accidentally sell anything collectible for melt value. Anything here jump out to anyone?
For clarity sake, the top row of the first picture is silver-plated, the rest are silver, and the second picture is non-precious metals.
Sterling Spoon Pattern? Age?
Hello. Apologies in advance if this is the wrong form. I have this vintage spoon ring and I’m trying to research the pattern/maker. Anyone have any insights?
I submit my family’s sugar spoon for the council

One of the treasures from my trove. Isn't that so cute? I use for rice serving. What else you suggest I should use it for?
I bought a whole set of cutlery, because I fell in love with this Hobbit spoon.
9 years later and I still love these spoons. I eat almost everything with a spoon.
Proper spoon etiquette (an informal poll)
So, my wife and I have been polling people irl about this topic that has come up. I figured, given what the question is, that this would be the right subreddit for it.
I'll go ahead and give you the question as unbiased as I can. Let's say you drink coffee or tea with sugar or creamer or milk. If you use the same spoon through the day or day after day, when you set the spoon down, what direction do you lay the spoon, face up (with the bottom of the dish touching the counter) or face down (with the rim of the dish on the counter)?
Also, should I post this to askreddit or leave it here?

Warspoon
My friends refer to this as a warspoon. When we do camping events there are large pots and outdoor fires so length is practical and fun. Many of us also brew beer so a large spoon for wort is needed.
The joke is that one can both feed the camp and defend the camp should it come under attack when wielding it. The spoon itself is made of cherry and was carved using a variety of hand and power tools. I sometimes put a tip on them for hiking.
Because of you lot..
., I have had to face my spoon hoarding ways. I've winnowed half of the mine. I'm pretty sure I've got all the spoon needs covered. Thanks Spoonheads! 🥄
