when the mosquitoes come out, and they surely will. I will be the only person feeling safe loitering in the grass. Sesame Double Shot uplands, I find these to be one of the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. I reach for them a lot more than I thought I would.

Happy 4th, don’t blow your fingers off.

Today we highlight “Texture"

Some leather has it in spades, some is more subtle. These are some of the most prevalent in my Grant Stone arsenal. The Badalassi Carlo Oliva Minerva Box in particular has some real depth to the leather, the C.F. Stead Dark Burgundy Classic Kudu isn’t far behind. I know there’s more extreme stuff, like those fuzzy rough suede, or Ramblers, and Crazy Cows , but in my Grant Stone stable this is it. Texture is cool, leather is cool !

Something about these… Damn that’s a good looking boot

I told myself I would put these away for the summer as the temps drift towards 100 degrees. Well, that didn’t work, wear them all the time. I almost bought the Red Wing version of these, it’s not a new design, but the execution, and choice of leathers… Perfecto!

I want these in a color that will end up how these start once the patina truly kicks in… Like maybe Tan Essex, Natural Minerva, Dublin ? If only Grant Stone read these posts , and could hook a brother up :)

I apologize in advance for the amount of photos you’re about to see. It’s to hot to go outside hunting critters with the camera, so we hunt boots.

The ROOS after 6 months of abuse

I got to many boots, so they don’t get daily abuse, but I do wear these a few times a week. Over the hills, through the creeks, and the slaughter of hundreds of fire ants, and other critters that want to bite me. Then the sun goes down, and out to the bars, and restaurants, they do it all! They match just about any outfit, definitely one of my favorite boots from any brand. Getting beat up, but only better looking with every blemish.

I wasn’t 100 percent sold, but I like these.

I like these now that I see them in person. haven’t given them a proper go yet, but they are on deck for the sunrise trip to the park tomorrow. I think I’m done buying boots, this got really out control really fast, but I do love them all. I try to buy different leathers if I’m gonna buy, and tend to stick to style/last that fits me best, but I do experiment in size. You can do a lot with a pair of socks, or an insert. A couple leathers got repeated, but I’m working on fixing that… NO MORE BOOTS ! I sure with I had a blue pair…

Staying on the Tan theme how about a little Minerva?

Not a huge fan of brown for boots, although it’s growing on me, but I love some tan.

Tan Essex, Still the fave in a house full of boots

I might have a problem, but these are still my favorites. The Kangaroo Brass Boots are a close second. These can look pretty different depending on the temperature of the light, but still developing nicely, it’s a slow burn. Worth the effort!

Overcast Crazy Cow Formal Last

These are pretty cool looking. My first excursion into this crazy cow leather, it’s unique for sure, kind of reminds me of Kudu.

Back in black

I had these boots put away for this Texas summer heat, that didn’t last long. Not a huge fan of CXL in black, but it works in this boot. Field Boot.

Brown Double Shot in the wild

I really like these boots, I did go half a size bigger for the Overcast Crazy Cow version though. I’m still relatively new to Truman, although I have been watching this subredit for months.

Watching the current pace of releases, is this how it will be the entire year? or do they go through peaks, and valleys? I find the marketing to be brilliant, drip drip drip of possible releases, with the occasional unexpected surprise. If the goal is to feed the crackheads, the social media is on point.

Brown Double Shot formal last showed up yesterday

As previously discussed I was waiting on these to arrive to decide if I should keep a simular pair purchased on eBay. Although I was worried about having two pairs of boots that look very similar, honestly they do not look alike at all.

The Oxblood Double Shot is dressier looking, the darker stitching, welts, soles lend themselves to a more elegant looking boot. I do prefer the color of the Brown Double Shot, not quite as purple, leans a bit more red, and contrasting stitching. Not as elegant, but it pops! If the Oxblood fit better I probably would of kept them, because I’m sick, and rehab is for quitters! They didn’t, and the 11.5EE fits much better, I would say perfectly for my flintstone feet. Oxblood is already in transit to it’s new home, travel well you sexy thang.

Sooooo, I bought a pair of Truman’s on eBay

My second pair, the first is a pair of Uplands from Truman. So the seller had the following information in his ad.

Truman Cap Toe Boots
Size 11.5 EE
79 Last
Double Shot Oxblood (Brown)
Matching Tongue
Tan Stitching
5 Eyelets + 2 Speedhooks
Antique Brass Hardware
Structured Toe Box
Goodyear Welted Construction
Truman Eugene Sole

Now color (I think), sole, hardware look correct, but the size is obviously wrong, both the box, and the ad say 11.5EE which is the same as my uplands, but the boot clearly says 12EE. This has me second guessing the whole boot, is the last correct? to me this looks more like the formal stuff Truman makes which I prefer. My dilemma is.. I have a pair of Brown double shot in the formal last 11.5EE in the mail from Truman. Am I gonna end up with two of the exact same boot with the only difference being a purple tint to the leather, and 1/2 size. Is it worth having both?

Different but the same sort of

I’m getting ready for my first cull of the collection, so I had to take some photos of the boots with the good camera. So why not a comparison? Grabbed some used Edwards on Ebay in Natural Minerva, I guess they are about a year, or two old , and well along the aging process. These things are freeking bright, wear them in the sunlight, and they will see you coming a mile away. I like it ! For comparison sake the Saddle Tan Diesel Boots (4-5 months old but worn a lot), and Tan Essex Brass Boots (about a year old also one of the most worn of the crew) are there.

To my eye , the Saddle Tan is obviously darker, a bit more brown in color (no bueno) , the Tan Essex is a bit more pale colored, not quite as vibrant, atleast not at this time. I guess we will see how they look in a year, but the Natural Minerva has dethroned the tan Essex as my favorite in color. In feel the two minerva’s feel simular, very stiff, or structured leather, while the Essex is very soft and malleable.

Indoor photos aren’t the best, but I’m not gonna walk outside with 10 pairs of boots to take photos :)

Probably a little to big, but still the most comfortable of the Brass Boots I own.

Part of it is the weight or lack of in comparison to the lug sole GS Brass Boots, I think the thinness of the leather also helps in that aspect. Overall just super comfortable, and enough grip for me. Jungle Kangaroo rocks, may resole one of the others to match these.

Every year around this time thousands of Mississippi Kites migrate from South America on their way further north. For some reason hundreds, or thousands will take a pitstop at Onion Creek park. If you look high in the tree tops you may see them, they aren't always as easy to find as you may think. For the next week or two they will randomly show up around sunset, and leave in the morning by 9AM. I have been watching this for a few years now… They are typically around this area https://maps.app.goo.gl/zSfFJNxmcuywohRV8 , but are probably all over the treetops all over the area.

this line across the boot is what remains after walking through wet grass and the bottom half of the boot getting soaked. Is it possible to remove that with conditioning, or is that there forever? These are my favorite boots, hopefully it will come out with some conditioning or maybe saddle soap ? I don’t know you tell me.
