Is this normal for brand new blacksmiths in copper?
This is how they are out of the box never worn.

Hello there,
I just receive my new boots, and I am not sure if this problem is common, there is a difference in the length of the leather in the left boot.
Hi!
I know this has come up before but just wanting to get the subs advice…
I already have a pair of them in a size 11 but they are too big. In normal shoes I’m a size 10.5 (Nike, Vans), and after reading it seems like most people go down a size not up.
Is this the common consensus? Planning on buying the black IR since I have the brown pair but a local shop is hard to get to in my area. I’ll be buying them soon for a work trip and I finally have a reason to buy!

Hello,
My pair of IR 8085 Copper Rough and Tough has always been too dark for me, not very much different from my old 8111 Amber Harness. This has been quite frustrating as I do be carefuly not to put any conditioner that would darken leather. (I use bick 4)
So I gave up and just ordered a pair of 8083 Hawthorne Muleskinner
Now in their video Redwing says you need to apply mink oil on them, which is the most wrong way to do it and perfectly the right way to DARKEN the leather.
So how do you personally take care of that pair?
Thank you
Before you say no, please read my post.
I'm looking for a boot for city walking on rainy days. Not in torrential downpours, just light to medium rains. And not for hours on end, just out and about running errands, commuting on public transportation, and such.
My ideal leather would be Black Oil Slick, but Red Wing, in their infinite wisdom, has not seen fit to produce the Classic Round in what is supposedly their most water-resistant leather.
However, they do make the 9111. Since I don't particularly care about the patina (I actually prefer black for this purpose), what's stopping me from using mink oil on Copper Rough & Tough? Does anyone have pictures of what this looks like?
Thanks!
Every time I find a boot or shoe that fits like a glove, the manufacturer discontinues it. So naturally Redwing dropped the BRNR XP 2403 and was the perfect boot for me. These boots survived 4 years of railroad use which no small feat.
Having narrow feet I always risk the laces being too close together and the boots looking stupid. Fortunately that didn't happen here
Shout out to Rocky at the Chicago store for helping get these to me. Was sad I missed out on the 8112 and knew I had to get these. Not as much a Moc guy but always loved that color as it aged.
Some of you have asked in my previous post (link) how the Kangatan leather compares to the Alpine Portage. Since I have the pleasure to own both I decided to put this in a seperate post.
Both leathers are very similar in surface, temper and touch. Both are dry to the touch and not waxy like the Oro Legacy or Amber Harness. Both have no pullup. From the start they feel slightly thinner but also stiffer than my Amber Harness. If you switched the leathers on either boot you would not notice it unless you looked.
The main difference is the color. The Kangatan green is a touch darker over all. Both are more like olive / military greens, however the Kangatan has a lot more brown to it. So much so, that in some light it apears dark brown an not green at all, which is impossible to fotograph. In good day light as in the pictures the Kangatan looks a bit more like racing green. All in all the apearance of the Alpine quite consitent while the Kangatan's changes quite a bit with different lighting.
I love them both but if I had to choose, I would go for the Kangatan. It's the slightly more interesting color. I'm also very happy that I don't have to choose.
Looking for a pair of boots to complement my Chelsea boots and considering one of these red wing boots. I’ve read that the 875 is more comfortable but the 8085 has a better sole for walking outdoors. I’m looking for a pair that can be used for walking the dogs and running errands etc in the Vancouver area.
I’m looking for a new pair of boots. I’m an electrician in the north eastern region of the US so I have to deal with all seasons. I’ve had 3 pairs of boots over the last 10 years. My current pair are tred lite 2449’s. The toe is completely worn off on both feet, the stitching is undone on about 1/3 of each boot and the soles are almost tread less. I absolutely loved these boots over the last 3 years but my feet are just killing me and I think it’s the boots. They started hurting a couple years ago and I didn’t think it was the boots but the pain hasn’t gone away. I had doctors check out my feet and they can’t find anything wrong. After some of my own research, I’m learning that wedge soles are really not designed for flat footed wearers on surfaces other than a smooth floor. I’ve had recommendations for super sole 2.0’s but I don’t want to spend the money on them and buy the tuff toe treatment which I know I’ll need. The brnr xp looks alright but I just don’t know.
A lot of brushing, a few light washes, some Bick 4, more brushing, and some Saphir Renovateur. Then in shoe trees overnight.
Looking to touch up my IR’s but for the life of me can’t remember what color Saphir I used last summer after a recondition. Any recommendations which color would match closest?
With being mulitiple archieves of 8111 IR being available, there’s a massive potential in terms of achiving a great patina. On the other hand ive seen less of patina/ worn in pair of 8078.
Personnaly I do love the alpine porter leather, its not much of a striking colour and more of a very muted dark green shade. But the amber harness is such a classic, the brown just gets darker and richer over time.
Coming from a guy whos boots are mostly black, the following choices are pretty hard to decide on.
I personnaly already own the 9060 beckmen flatbox and the black harness IR.
I know it comes down to personal opinion, but let me know which will make you guys not regret in the long run.
Share your thoughts please 😁
They became available on August 14th at which time it had been ten days after I bought my first ever pair of Moc Toes in Oro-Legacy and I just couldn't resist. They arrived today. That leather looks so much better in real life. Seems as if I'm getting used to wedgesoles after all.
