Physical games are terrible and I am overjoyed that Rockstar and Sony are standing up against them
With all the outrage about GTA6's digital codes and Sony announcing they are cancelling physical games I felt like I should share my input and bring a bit of sense to the debate. Discs were cool back in the fucking 1900s but now they're just an outdated technology and it's time to move on. Digital games are far superior, they can't be damaged or lost and you don't have to fiddle with inserting a new disc until your console whenever you want to play a different game. You also don't need to deal with all these cases cluttering up your space. The world really doesn't need anymore plastic.
"But with a physical game you can sell it when you're done"
You buy a game for $70 so you can trade it in for $4.50 store credit? Great roi am I right. Us digital gamers only buy quality games so we never have a reason to sell them in the first place.
"But you can buy physical games for cheaper on the used market"
Ever heard of steam sales my friend? All I have to do is wait a few months and every game I could ever want is available for massive discounts.
"But digital games are just a license, you don't actually own anything"
I hate to break it to you but you've always been buying licenses for your games, even when the whole game was on a disc. Whether you own the game or a license to play it doesn't even mean anything to you anyways so I don't know why you care.
"Physical games are better for preservation"
No they aren't. Cartridges eventually stop working and Discs just sort of rot away with age. You always say that companies can always take away digital games but remind me when has that happened?
