Rutilated Quartz

Rutilated Quartz.

Most rutilated quart has a golden color to the needles, but occasionally you can find rutile colors of silver, black, and reddish-copper colors. This piece is pretty unique in that it has almost every variation of rutile colors. The composition of the rutile needles is Titanium Dioxide.

This image contains 20 focus stacked photos.
Second pic is the full slab.

Gembone Vertebra Macros.

Here is a bit of a different flavor of gembone. This partial vertebra was loaned to me so I could check it out with my macro setup. The amount of cell types and orientation variety in a piece like this, is so cool to see!!!
Haversian canal, compact bone, osteons, etc!
All signs of this most likely belonging to a carnivorous dinosaur. Full piece pictured at the end of the photos.

Maury Mountain (old stock).

I’ve only seen this a few times within the Maury materials, and it’s some of my absolute favorite!!! These sagenite formations are so dang neat with their varied colors. These old stock slabs are absolutely packed with it!!!
We sold a huge pile of these slabs this week and are just now realizing how dang awesome they are!!!!🤯
This is a 2x2 grid of photos to make this one image.

Fossilized Ostracod Shells.

This material has had quite a confusing history of names, labels, and incorrect identification of what the material actually is. It has taken names like Indonesian Palm Root, Caddisfly Agate, Caddisfly Larva Agate, Maggot Agate, and more recently a wild and completely incorrect identification of it being a stromatolite.

I can confirm three things about this material.

  1. It comes from Indonesia.
  2. It is not stromatolite.
  3. There are lots of fossilized Ostracod shells, both inside and outside of the tubular structures.

I seriously wish more care was taken in correctly identifying materials before they make it to market.

Picture of the full slab is at the end of the photos.
Macro images are 2.5x magnification.

24” Vibratory Tumbler?

I am looking for information and guidance regarding the Highland Park, 24Tumbler-220, model of vibratory tumbler. Info like how many stages/grits, issues to look out for with that specific machine? Possible DIY water feed solutions? Price of replacement urethane liners?
Cleaning advice for between stages?
Picture just for reference.

Shrinkwood/Pocket Rot.

This phenomenon example from Smokey Butte in Central Oregon, was a surface collected piece and was highly wind polished showing shrink wood pattern on the outside and this pocket rot pattern when we cross cut the piece. We split the piece and cut one slab from the thicker half. Both end cuts will remain in our collection.
Macro images are shot at 5x magnification. Whole slab photo at the end of the album.

Moth Wings And Feathers.

A few macro images of moth wing. I have not identified species, as all I found was a wing. I particularly love the translucent round window in the wing and the delicate structure of some of the feathers. These images were all shot at 10x magnification.

Maury Mountain Old Stock

I know that great material can still be found at Maury mountain, but it just doesn’t stand up to the wild quality and styles that were collected long ago.

This slab has so much going on, it’s hard to take it all in.
The structures, colors, and depth, just blow my mind and leave me in awe.

Photos are shot at 3x magnification and a full slab image is shown at the end.

Central Oregon Rarities

Here are two pieces of somewhat rare fossil wood and limb cast from central Oregon. First piece is a colorful limb cast from Marston Ranch. The second is feather wood. The feathery patterns in this fossil wood are created by fungus.

My mind is Gem’blown🤯

When it comes to gembone, I feel pretty spoiled.
It takes a pretty spectacular piece to blow my mind these days. Well this slab definitely delivered! And I’m currently looking for the top of my head🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

This slab comes from the Isaiah Breckbill collection, and is one of the funkiest pieces I’ve shot in quite some time.
This image is 4 photos stitched together. Each of the 4 photos were shot at 5x magnification.
