The Future Of TWD Franchise - Speculation after Gimples comments

According to Scott Gimple in another post / article I just read: TWD is at most, halfway through its lifespan.

So with that in mind I wanted to speculate what that might look like - Right or wrong, good or bad, & regardless of what any haters say...

TWD: S1 E1 Aired October 31, 2010 - Daryl Dixon Finale airs in 2027 - 17 years later.

So that would mean they're planning for at least 18 more years of TWD from 2027-2045 - Potentially longer!

Edit: Only comments so far are hating on Gimple or The Walking Dead - I want to be clear that this is just a bit of fun, and not to be taken too seriously. I know nothing of any behind the scenes drama. If people don't like Gimple that's fair enough but I don't want this post to be a place to bash TWD or anyone involved - I loved the show and multiple spin offs, and despised a couple of spin offs too, but it's boring / frustrating to see so many comments where the only thing is hate with no engagement towards the topic / speculation / fandom of the show.

Eminem - Acting Roles & Movies He could've been in - What would you have liked to have seen him in

As a big Eminem fan that also loves 8 Mile, I always thought it was a shame that we never got to see him in more movies.

His performance was more than solid and he has an underrated range - As fans of his music know, he can be extremely funny & extremely dark too, but he's one of the rare none-actors that was able to star in and carry a movie like that so successfully.

Obviously it helped that it was semi autobiographical and heavily music related, but my points still stand - He also killed it in cameos, such as The Interview, and Funny People.

Over the years he's been linked to lots of projects, which never come to fruition due to his obvious desire to stay in Detroit, make music & be with his family instead - Which is understandable and commendable compared to a lot of artists that huge, but a shame for us as I'm sure he would've been great in all kinds of different roles over the years!

So with that being said, I've listed a bunch of movie roles that I've read he was at one time either discussed for, wanted for, or linked with. I want to know what role you would've liked to have seen him in, or that you think he would've been suited for etc

(Obviously the majority of these were never realistic in any true sense of him being close to singing a contract, but it's just a bit of fun and speculation so don't take it too seriously!)

Training Day - Director Antoine Fuqua offered him either the leading rookie cop role of Jake Hoyt (which ultimately went to Ethan Hawke) or a villainous supporting role. He declined both offers to focus on developing his semi-autobiographical movie debut, 8 Mile.

Fast & Furious - Eminem was offered the lead role of Brian O'Conner in the original 2001 The Fast and the Furious movie. He turned it down to star in his semi-autobiographical film, 8 Mile. Consequently, the role went to Paul Walker.

Jumper - Eminem was heavily courted by studio executives for the lead role of David Rice in the 2008 sci-fi action film Jumper. Ultimately, director Doug Liman put his foot down to cast Hayden Christensen instead.

The Fighter - Eminem was originally one of the studio's top choices to play boxer Micky Ward in the 2010 film, however the role ultimately went to Mark Wahlberg, who also served as a producer. Eminem instead shifted focus and developed a separate boxing film, Southpaw, which was seen as a spiritual sequel to 8 mile, featuring themes inspired by his life.

Southpaw - Eminem was originally slated to star as the lead in Southpaw. The film's script, written by Kurt Sutter, was initially conceived as a metaphorical sequel to 8 Mile using boxing to mirror the rapper's personal struggles. Eminem dropped out of the project to focus on his music, and the role of Billy Hope ultimately went to Jake Gyllenhaal.

Elysium - Eminem was director Neill Blomkamp's first choice to star as the lead in his 2013 sci-fi blockbuster Elysium. However, the rapper declined the role because Blomkamp refused to relocate the production to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. The part ultimately went to Matt Damon.

Venom - Eminem was discussed by executives as a possible option to star as the lead character Eddie Brock, in the Venom movies. Tom Hardy was the studio's first choice & ultimately he ended up with the role, whilst Eminem instead created the title song for the movie.

Mad Max: Fury Road - George Miller confirmed that Eminem was considered and contacted early in development. Storyboards were even reportedly altered to resemble him before Tom Hardy emerged as the preferred choice.

GTA - Following the massive success of Grand Theft Auto III, a Hollywood producer pitched the studio a movie that would have starred Eminem, who was just coming off his acting debut in 8 Mile. Rockstar co-founders Sam and Dan Houser ultimately declined the offer as they were unwilling to hand over creative control to Hollywood.

Some Other Role - Or would you preferred to have seen Eminem in the likes of the MCU, DCU, Star Wars, Star Trek universes!

The State Of Comedy in Televisions Modern Era '13-19 VS '20-26

A big discussion in the last decade plus, has been the perceived decline in comedy, or the lack of pure comedies in general compared to a couple of decades ago.

I wanted to actually explore that and see what people thought, so I decided to seperate comedies, and comedy dramas from the modern era's, and honestly there have been loads of really great shows.

I will say that the pure genre of comedy feels like it's been less prolific, whereas comedy dramas seem to have been consistently popular both critically and in terms of viewership.

Maybe it's the shorter seasons, or longer time between seasons blurring the sentiment towards them, or maybe there's a genuine drop off in terms of the writing compared to comedies of earlier decades that were more geared towards making us laugh.

Or instead maybe it's just that people don't want straight comedies as much as they used to, and they want something funny, that also has emotional weight and drama?

what do you think?

(This isn't an exhaustive list of all comedy remember)

Edit: The years are representative of when a show that's listed premiered - eg - The Office finale was in 2013, but it premiered in 2005 so isn't eligible

The Walking Dead Franchise Future In 2027 & Beyond - The Global Netflix deal

The global Netflix deal for all TWD shows starts in 2027.

Then the final season of DD drops - Dead City will presumably have it's final season the following year...

By then you would hope that with the Netflix effect, and the Netflix money, it will lead to AMC & Netflix co producing the 'Endgame' reunion show with the same global rights deal, to reunite characters from the various spin offs and wrap things up from this era of the walking dead.

  • 2027 - Daryl Dixon S4

  • 2028 - Dead City S4

  • 2029/2030 - The Walking Dead: Endgame

After that's all finished I imagine they will look to go into the 2030's with: 'The Walking Dead: Next Generation' - Using an entirely new cast, or using some of the child characters from the OG show as adults.

  • 2032 - The Walking Dead: Next Generation

  • 2034 - The Walking Dead: Clementine

  • 2036 - Young Daryl

  • 2038 - The Walking Dead: Final Reckoning

  • 2040 - The Walking Dead: Alien Invasion

Who am I kidding, this show, and this franchise ain't ending anytime soon regardless of what I, or anyone else thinks.

(The Young Daryl show is a joke referencing the modern spin off trend of Young Sheldon, Young Sherlock etc - Although I could actually see that show working with a Shameless type premise in an Ozark like setting, mixed with a bit of a Banshee type vibe)

The Inbetweeners 3 Movie - Where are the characters now.

I pictured a couple of things that I thought could be funny:

(I just came up with this on the fly and didn't stop to consider if it's realistic, I just kept typing and thought some of these ideas would be funny - It's just banter so don't take it too serious - A lot of it is bollocks haha)

---

Jay - Married to a super hot eastern European 'mail order bride' or Ukrainian refugee that hates him, but tolerates him for a green card. Jay's lies about his exciting sex life are as bizarre as ever, but he is yet to actually consumate the marriage, or maybe he did, but just for 2 minutes on his wedding night. He posts pictures and gushes over her online and she mostly rolls her eyes, swears at him in russian / Ukrainian, and calls bullshit on his many lies,. embarrassing him in public. Maybe by the end of the movie he breaks up with her, a la Stu in the Hangover, or instead maybe he does something during the movie to stick up for her or himself, and she eventually realises he's a decent guy and it's more like the sarcastic love we see in James's off screen relationship with Claire - So in the end Jay gets his super hot wife & loving marriage / home life.

Neil - He isn't married but is in a long term relationship with a hot, but crazy, and equally intelligent (pregnant) single mother from the council estate next to his Asda, which he no longer works at after receiving a 6 figure payout for chopping a finger off in the fish mongers section. He is in a small council house that is kitted out with any and everything cringe you could imagine, starting with a hot tub that is the size of his tiny garden etc. His current GF is pregnant with Neil's 5th child, all to different women and Neil is down to his last 50k in savings having received close to a million pounds just a couple of years prior.

Will - Either an independent local politician that everyone hates, and disagrees with, kind of a male UK version of Leslie Knope, but in classic Will McKenzie style. Or maybe he works a decent job for a big company in London where he is still the victim of all manners of pranks and comments etc. Newly single and still unlucky in love, and still as neurotic as ever, at times bringing the hate upon himself.

Simon - Maybe it's his role as a geology student in fresh meat but I can just picture Simon as a pushover Geography teacher that thinks he's cool but is (not so) secretly mocked by most pupils and teachers for his easygoing attitude and desire to be the 'cool teacher' that everybody likes - He is however the favourite teacher of the nerds and outcasts. He proposes to his long term GF, and assistant head teacher at the school setting up the movie premise early on.

Donovan - A PT, mental health advocate and anti bullying campaigner that conveniently neglects to mention his past as the school bully, which enrages Will when he sees how Donavon is blowing up on social media, and making money with this fake nice guy persona.

Charlotte - Had a well paid job in the fashion industry but was fired over social media posts / a viral video of her being a Karen. Reaches out to Will when she sees that he's doing well but not too long later, shows her true colours again leaving Will dejected, but realising he had a lucky escape both in high school, and again as a grown man.

Carly - Perpetually unlucky in love having had 4 failed engagements. Still sees Simon at family functions and trys to make his nice new girlfriend jealous, to no avail. Still the same Carly but theae days Simons far less likely to fall for any of her mind games.

Big John - Jacked, rich, successful - Maybe just a cameo, or we see him advertising a car dealership or something. Or maybe he just works in the local McDonald's - He always liked burgers, they're good because you don't need knives and forks for burgers

Mr Gilbert - On remand from prison, or on probation having been recently released for beating a former (adult) student in the local pub.

Mrs McKenzie - Dating an African American footballer that plays pro / semi-pro for a local team. Oblivious to the way he treats Will. Spurns any advanced from Mr Gilbert to reconcile, leaving 'Phil' to harass Will in an attempt to convince her to take him back.

Thoughts after watching:

Cinematography, sets, score and practical effects all look phenomenal.

It looks like the dialogue could go either way at this point. The trailer only gives us a few lines, that are mostly fine, but does include the occasional stinker such as 'lets goooo' as though Odysseus is in a call of duty lobby.

Anne Hathaway is a great actor and used to be stunning, but in the last couple of years her facelift/s and plastic surgery have left her edging towards that slightly strange, pulled back look. To the point where it's distracting watching her performances in a historical epic like the odyssey. Her facial expressions and emoting are becoming a little bit uncanny valley, compared to much of her previous, stellar work (@2:01).

I can already tell Robert Pattison is going to give one of the films best performances, he's gone from strength to strength in the last 10+ years. Charlize Theron appears to be locked in too, and she's also a phenomenal actor when she's at her best.

Personally Matt Damon wouldn't have been my first choice for the character of Odysseus, but he's an incredible actor and I trust him to give a solid performance, as evidenced by some moments of his in the trailer.

Tom Holland is perfect for his supporting role and I have no doubts about him doing it justice given that he won't be the main focus.

We didn't see much, if anything from most of the other supporting cast so there's still a lot left to look forward to...

I think this will be a stunning, beautifully shot, perfectly crafted movie, but I still have some minor concerns around some actors being miscast for their roles...

Not to take anything away from the movie though as despite my personal opinion about some of the casting, it certainly won't 'ruin' it.

I just think that like a lot of people before it was announced, we all had our imagined versions of what a perfect adaptation would look like so it's hard to please everyone.

There hasn't been a bad Christopher Nolan movie so I'm looking forward to seeing it, and finding out if it will meet, miss or exceed mine and everyone else's expectations!

Edit: (Forgot to mention that The giants, Sailing, and Trojan Horse scenes look epic!)
