I made a pair of Boys shorts!

Every year I suddenly get the urge to make my son shorts, last year it was pajama bottoms and the year before cotton shorts that honestly were pretty bad, but he loves them and can just about fit into them still.

Anyway today, I bought some vintage knit fabric at a flea market for 5 euros. I have no idea what the fabric is 🤣 but thought it would be perfect for some shorts. It was uncut still in its original packing, if anyone can tell me what it actually is from the label I'd appreciate it! The fabric stretched and rebounds easily on the width, but hardly any movement on the length.

I found the shorts pattern free, I can share the link if anyone wants it, it looked pretty fun. Putting the shorts together I realised just how far I've come with my sewing in a little over a year, and I'm really excited with how they have turned out.

I tried a couple of new things, my first ever time sewing with knit/stretch fabrics, the first time ever using the double needle I've had in my sewing box, and first time using the buttonhole foot. Pretty pleased with how it's all worked out. I have also learnt that invisible thread is the devil's thread of choice! I had such trouble with it randomly twisting up on the spool holder and breaking.

I still need to thread a cord through the waistband, but it's elasticated so it's more for looks than fit.

My son seems to like them, will have to see if he wears them 🤣

Advice about making soft covers and pets please

Hi everyone my friend has the most adorable tiny poodle terrier cross that unfortunately isn't in the best of health, he's very very old, and despite being followed by the vet and treated holistically to complement the vet treatments, he's incontinent with number 1s, which is where my question comes in.

My friend is making new sofa cushions to update her suite, and obviously this little munchkin loves to nap on the cushions, but with new covers he shouldn't really be allowed to, and she doesn't want to keep him in a nappy all the time he's indoors as it's not nice on his skin. They absolutely adore this pup, and only want what's best for him, he does already have several soft beds but prefers to sneak onto the sofas when no ones looking. I suggested puppy training mats to put over the covers, but then I thought maybe I could make her some custom ones that fully cover the cushions as a gift, that compliment the colours she's using.

What materials would you use and what's your experience been of washable ones? I'm not sure how much longer he has left, so I want to allow him that comfort at the end of his life.

Edit to add. When I say fully cover the cushion, what I mean is the top of the cushion, so positioning doesn't need to be considered as he can't pay half off on/off it

New shop! Please may I have a critique 🙏

Hey everyone I've just opened my Etsy shop selling the wooden TCG card display stands that I've been making, and I want to ask for a critique as a new handmade shop please 🙏

I suppose what I'm asking about primarily is:

*How does my listing format come across ( I've tried to keep it upbeat and fun, i kinda love the emojis but I guess they might not be to everyone's tastes) I figured given how Etsy displays item details that it might be good to bullet point (or in this case emoji point) the details, and then put a bigger more detailed description below for those interested. Does this work?

*Are my photos ok? I've really struggled with this and I've been trying a few different things and different lighting options. I've had a quick lesson in photography from a friend who is a retired photographer, but it's been hard to put everything into practice.

*Do I need more listings to actually turn up in searches? I've tried to optimise my tags using Erank, and I've been comparing my items to others selling similar things, so I've tried to price competitively ( I think). I've also got A lot of ideas for things I'd like to make, but that's still a work in progress 😅 as I'm not happy with any of my designs yet.

*I've signed up to Etsy plus for a month to see how that works since it says it gives you free listing credits, and some advertising. Is this something I should continue with it is it just a waste of money for now?

I'm only shipping to Europe right now, but once I get my head around international postage I want to add worldwide options too, but with postage costs what they are now, outside of Europe i don't know if this is even feasible on low value items.

I started making these for my son who has really gotten into collecting Pokémon cards the last couple of years. He wanted something to put his cards on in his room, and I've been a woodworking hobbyist for a little while now, so the idea grew from there. The names I've given the styles are actually what we call them at home😄 as my son speaks fluent french and English and likes to mix them together for fun.

Let me know your thoughts! They will be much appreciated!

My shop name is: Collectonomicon
