What happened to West Coast Oriental Grocery? 😭

I drove by the other day and the building is for lease now. I'm so sad. They were my favorite Vietnamese grocery store in town for years. The other one on Meridian is fine too but this one was just a little more nostalgic for me. The folks there were always so nice to me stuttering through my Vietnamese 🥺

Looking for something light, maybe funny but engaging enough to distract from grieving

My daughter (dog) just crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago, and I'm also in the middle of contending with some other new major trauma stuff. I'm mostly taking it easy, playing video games and consuming content online but I'd like to read more, but the books I have are just a little too heavy, activating, or triggering. I'd like something to pass the time, keep myself distracted, without feeling too effortful. Like, I've rewatched basically the entirety of Bob's Burgers at least 4-5 times at this point bc it's cozy, easy watching, light and fun. I want the book equivalent of this.

I sadly didn't enjoy reading Hitchhiker's Guide a ton; it felt a little dry for me. British humor in literature tends to be that way for me, I think. I also don't like things that focus way too heavily on painting the landscape with paragraphs and pages dedicated to detailing what the world looks like. LOTR feels like that to me. I tend to like things that are more character-driven than driven by world-building.

I really enjoyed Series of Unfortunate Events, but some of the themes around child/orphan neglect and incompetent/ineffective adults hits a little too close to home for me sometimes.

Romance might be tough for me right now, but I'm open to it if it's queer.

Any suggestions for a book that helped you feel a little warmer or at least distracted through a period of mourning?

Leftist weirdo looking for a new place to call home, maybe

I've been living in the same college town for nearly 15 years now. While there are a lot of things I have enjoyed over the years, I'm starting to wonder if maybe I need to find a new/larger/different pool of people to be around.

The thing that most makes me want to leave is that it's way too white and midwestern culturally. It's a very liberal town but it's full of performative white folks and people who mistake being passive and polite as being kind. I'm a bold personality, sensitive, but a direct communicator and I'm really tired of having to tip toe around white people's fragile feelings and demands for "decorum". I'd like to be around other people that aren't afraid of big personalities.

Here are some other things that are important to me in a place to live:

- Trans and queer friendly

- Polyamory dating scene is present

- POC friendly

- Speaking English will at least get me by

Any thoughts on a city that might suit me?

Is there a sub that could help me figure out what might be a good place for me to move to?

I've been living in the same town for over a decade and I'm starting to think it might be time for me to leave because my personality doesn't quite fit the norm here, in some ways at least. But I'm not sure where else might be a better fit for me. Is there a sub where people could recommend places that might be better suited to me?

ISO someone who wants to sew some very simple PJ bottoms

My husband is a very tall large fella and finding him pants in his size is tough. I know sewing pajama pants is a relatively simple project and was wondering if there's a hobbyist who might like to take this on as a project. I'd pay for materials, and we can discuss how much I'd comp you for your time or per pair of pants, however you wanna do it.

Not looking to short change anyone for their work but ideally looking for someone who just kind of wants a fun little sewing project. I'll prob do it myself if no one else wants to or if I find it's entirely out of my budget.

Thanks hamsters 🐹💖
