This stray cat named Sunrise has been coming around my block for about three years. I could not afford to take him in, but I would put food out for him and other strays on my block. In March I noticed that his eyes were getting foggy, and then 3 days later he looked like he was blind. He couldn’t figure out how to get on the porch. He was roaming around like he couldn’t see. I live on a busy street so I contacted a trapper from a rescue and took him to the county shelter because they said they helped stray cats for free they were able to give him some bloodwork, some vaccinations and flea medicine. They were unable to handle him and treat his eyes and asked me if I could pick him back up 3 days later and try myself since I was the only person that could get close to him. When I got there the eyes had progressed badly and I ended up spending about $800 already at the vet plus a large crate that I needed to buy to keep him in my house. I used practically the last of my money and don’t even have enough for my own rent this month. His eyes were getting a lot better and we restored vision I couldn’t believe it but each time they showed they were improving they would get bad again. They’re a lot better than they were but each day I can see they are regressing, getting red foggy and inflamed and it is only a matter of time before he is back to square one. I took him to a local vet because that’s all I could afford and the vet definitely helped them improve but can’t get them to stay stable. He was diagnosed with chronic uveitis, but there’s an underlying unknown condition that’s causing the uveitis and now he needs to go to an ophthalmologist so that we could figure out what’s wrong and treat it for good. The ophthalmologist is $450 just to walk in the door and I lost my job due to own medical problems last year and ran through all of my savings. I spent a lot of money on this cat that I didn’t have because I knew it was time sensitive to see if his vision and I’m a single parent with no child support. I’m trying my best to save this cat’s vision and I took him into my home from the street since beginning of March but I can’t do it on my own financially. I already have 2 indoor cats of my own then I was struggling to feed and now I also have to take them to get vaccines and preventative medicine because I’m bringing in a stray. The pictures in the GoFundMe show what his eyes originally looked like before things started up and then when they started getting foggy and then when they got really dark when he lost his vision ……since this is a chronic condition, he will probably require ongoing care and doctors, but I won’t be certain until I see somebody who specializes in eyes and vision for felines. On top of this my own house cat has been balding from overgrooming everyday and needs vet care that I can’t afford to see why he is doing this but I dealt this first bc it was time sensitive and I didn’t want him to go blind. I will also attach an Amazon wishlist as well but my main goal is getting him to the ophthalmologist for an official diagnosis from somebody who really understands the illness of the eyes in cats and the best way to treat whatever is causing this to keep coming back. Anything helps as I am trying to help a cat that was not mine plus my own cat and am currently getting disconnect notices on my heat, electric, cell phone and don’t even have my rent together this month. I had a good job and I lost my job after a year of health conditions that came out of the blue that included 4 surgeries, 8 rounds of antibiotic pills, a week in hospital on IV antibiotics with a mid line put in my arm for another week IV antibiotics at home, 5 weeks of IV iron infusions out patient at the hospital, 8 trips to the ER, 2 breast biopsies, 1 lung lymph node biopsy and a mystery infection no one could figure out for almost a year and still never did after that all settled down I developed severe anxiety and depression that came on suddenly which I never had before in my life.
