Searwood Pizza

First time making pizza on the Searwood. Put a pizza stone over the grates, heated to 600. These cooked FAST! Like half the time of oven baking (which I normally do at 500). Absolutely delicious flavor and perfect texture.

Searwood Pizza

First time making pizza on my new Weber Searwood. If you're not familiar with it, the Searwood is a combined pellet smoker and grill, capable of hitting 600 degrees. I have been using it as a smoker so far. Put a pizza stone over the grates, heated to 600. Tese cooked FAST! Like half the time of oven baking. Absolutely delicious flavor and perfect texture.

First smoke - success!

If you saw my prior post, you saw the drama of merely getting my 600xl to work. Finally got it to operate correctly today and wow, what a result.

Did my usual hotter cook for pork butts, set to 275. Ambient per my tempspikes hovered around 250-260 most of the time but climbed to 275 in the final hour.

First time in about a decade I didn't have a butt hit the stall. Powered right through, no wrap needed 6h45m smoke. Used a mix of Kingsford hickory pellets and bourbon barrel pellets.

Perfect bark, great smoke ring, unbelievably juicy. I'm a fan. Now I just hope it will work again tomorrow!

First Burn... not going well

Bought a 600xl from the Lowe's Outlet. Absolutely stole it at $325. Supposedly had a scratch on the inside. Who cares? Had some pellets in it but didn't appear to ever actually have been used even once.

Filled pellet hopper to the top. Set to 450. First two starts, E02 codes (fan overheating) within seconds of starting. Figured some pellets maybe got jammed into the fan blades during transport.

Got past that (heard what sounded like pellets getting flung out) and now it's been running for about 15 minutes. Temp still shows 100 (it's 100 degrees ambient here today). It's smoking like crazy (less so than initially but still some smoke) and feels hotter than 100. And as I was typing this... e06 code. Perhaps this is a lemon. Argh.

Update: watched a YT video for the e06 code. Opened everything up and the glow plug is working. There were a few unburned pellets in the fire box, not nearly as many a the guy had on YT. Like maybe 10. Fired it back up but set to 400 rather than 450. It's finally gone up 5 degrees, but only 5 degrees, in about 5 minutes. Smoking like crazy again.

Update 2: still trying to make lemonade. Pulled and cleaned the auger, no obvious signs of a jam / problem.

Update 3: starting to think the auger motor is defective.

Update 4: gave up yesterday after tinkering with it for 6 hours. Fired it up as a final test before reaching out to Weber, and voila, seems to be working great. Temp up to 300 in about 10 minutes and climbing (as I type, it just reached 400) Technically the first burn, but set to 400 per Weber guidance when having auger or glow plug issues. Wondering if maybe the 100+ ambient temps yesterday were messing with the computer? Currently about 75 here (huge storm came through last night, temps dropped).

Update 5: was running great, had it set to 275 for a quick smoke on a pork butt. Made sure it was holding steady for 10 minutes after it hit 275. Plugged in meat thermometer and the temp reading dropped like a stone to 105, in a matter of seconds. Still holding at 105 on the screen but feels way hotter (again). So now I'm thinking it's the computer.

Update 6: back to what it was doing yesterday. Runs great at start up but temp won't go over 100. Burns an initial run of pellets and then won't reignite the glow plug.

Update 7: was about ready to give up... disconnected and reconnected all of the control board wires. Running great and holding 275 for over an hour now. Butt is on. Using a TempSpike to minimize variables. It says the grill internal is 255 rather than 275. Which is ok but I may bump it up for a faster cook (my preferred style, usually avoids the stall).

Jordan Star Rookie - Need Authentication and Grading

I've owned a Star 101 84-85 MJ rookie card since 1985, along with the Bulls team set. I was a little kid and, like an idiot, played with it a little. So it's not perfect. It's been in a slab of glass since 1987, and spent about a decade after that in a safety deposit box. Parents took it out of the safety deposit box once I owned my own house, and I've kept locked away ever since. I think it's time to sell... but I need authentication and grading services.

Does PSA also do authentication? I'm aware of the saga behind this card (joker made a bunch of fakes). Can guarantee mine is real! Original owner! But obviously no one is just going to take my word for it given the potential value.

Thanks in advance.

AITH for calling for an FA?

Just home from my honeymoon flight. Should be on cloud 9. I am not.

Called for FA to move a passenger from an empty exit row seat he didn't pay for, & to which he'd brought his 7 YO drunken midget so they could watch something on his phone without headphones. New wife wanted me to simply let it go.

Traveling lately has become nearly unbearable, mostly due to inconsiderate passengers. I try to avoid being rude, & hope folks at least are conscious of others. Most are. Every flight I've taken in the last 36 mo. (50+), though, multiple passengers seem to think we live in their world. Primary annoyance is people not using headphones. They're typically seated w/in 3 rows of me. I dread this, knowing it's seemingly inevitable.

Splurged & paid extra for exit row because kids can't sit there. 1st class not available. Flying Avelo, its own slice of hell. No snack or drink service; FAs rarely traverse the aisles. No wifi.

I likely have misophonia (sounds in public can trigger rage, mostly people not using headphones in public spaces, & especially enclosed spaces). While people should be courteous enough to not use their speakers in public, this has reached epidemic proportion to the point of normalcy. Given that my response is more severe, it's on me to better handle it. I carry good noise canceling over-ear headphones. Unfortunately, at some point the on/off button on my headphones got switched on inside my bag, & the battery was drained. No charging available & didn't notice until in the air.

Can handle crying children & smelly food. Can't handle parents who make no effort to stop their child from kicking the seat, or to console their crying child. Eventually if enough bad behavior compounds, my stress-tolerance cup runneth over.

Travel snag connecting between St. Croix & ILG, going through SJU. We flew JetBlue to/ from St. X t/fr SJU, Avelo b/w ILG & SJU. Original gap b/w flights 90+ mins. Tight but doable for collecting & rechecking bags. We had 3 large bags & a smaller roller, given it was our wedding and we were gone for 2 weeks. Gambling to book this way, never again.

St. X to SJU flight delayed, w/ early notice, but leaving only 45 minutes b/w legs. Resigned to staying an extra night in SJ, tried to cancel the SJU to ILG leg. Cancelation would not go through online. SJU to ILG leg also got delayed, albeit with very little notice, but restoring a doable gap.

Got to SJU w/ about 90 minutes b/w legs. Hustled to the next gate (in a different terminal & the farthest away possible) to make sure we still had seats. We did. Hustled solo down to baggage claim, forgetting that SJU has 2 separate claim areas. Literally sprinting between claims, collected our bags & got them checked while wifey tried to find us some food. Felt like I'd run a 5k while pushing 200lbs of luggage. Bag check-in was in A, flight was out of B. More running.

Security at B: I have Precheck, but the security line was 100+ deep. Fortunately got through in time & was nearly the last to board. Stressed.

Flight was about 1/2 full. To our left, 2 empty exit row seats, 1 guy in the window seat of the row. In front was a dad; wife & child seated several rows back. He promptly began watching reels of some kind at full volume. Loud & obnoxious child repeatedly came to visit. They moved to the exit row, commencing watching together whatever Disney crap he had on his phone. Tried to tolerate it but no FA ever walked by. Called for FA, & they promptly moved the kid first, then told the dude he had to move too. Wife mad for me taking action (we have an otherwise outstanding relationship).

Paid extra for our seats. Dangerous to have a child in an exit row. Annoying AF to have to listen to his phone and blathering whirling dervish child. Stress cup full. AITH for calling the FA?
