My mum died. She fell ill and died within 24 hours. I got through the funeral and now, nothing.

It was always me and her. My father died when I was young, and her last words were "we had a beautiful life together".

I've started a reread of Night Watch today, after a few years, and without hyperbole, it really is an absolute masterpiece.
