My first true Sony, Wega, HD, and 16:9 CRT
Recently got one of my dream sets, only a light scuff on the screen which I’m not bothered by and some light scratches at a point that is on the black edges of the tube. As you can see, there are some impurities, but I have a good question that I likely already know the answer to. Was transported by someone else, so is the middle of the screen bowing up and the top corners bowing out combined with the top right corner being purple or green and the entire left edge of the screen due to yoke sag? More than sure of it myself and not scared to mess with. Regardless I’m not bothered by the convergence all too much and it isn’t all too terrible to me. I love this thing just as much as I thought I would and the lag issues are definitely not anywhere near as noticeable as people make them out to be but 240p - 480i stuff is definitely a bit too sharp. Otherwise the tube is super healthy! I’ve got it running at stock contrast and lower brightness at the moment and wouldn’t mind going lower as it doesn’t change horribly a bit lower. Shell is fairly worn and the door for the buttons and inputs has the pins broken, if anyone has tips to attach some new ones I’m looking for some! Has the remote and everything.

Front and side pics from after I cleaned up all the marks, had tons of crazy scratches and black scuffs all over it and some green stuff too but I managed to clean it all up with a bit of magic eraser and a TON of elbow grease and Iso Alc.
Find it hilarious how someone wrote the H scan and V scan on the back of the monitors label as well.
Well this one was slightly disappointing, but regardless looks really good after I messed with it. Haven’t messed with geometry yet but HOLY was this thing quite dim. Blacks and greys were also horribly red as well so I had to set the red bias to 0 and open it up and crank the G2 a little to get it usable at 60 contrast and 20 brightness without horribly bright blacks. There are also some SUPER fine lines crawling up the screen which may point to either some bad caps or psu issues if I’m not mistaken? Very fine scratches on the screen, and some convergence issues I’m gonna have to sort out with the geometry but otherwise doesn’t seem all too bad. 1440p is definitely ever so slightly sharper than my HP P1120 (CPD-G500) and its ever so slightly larger so if I can get the colors just as nice it may even take it’s spot on my desk. Wish I had more pics but it’s getting pretty late at this Point.

Funny thing is I got both from the same guy!! Felt like Christmas all over again when I caught his post about the Sony and he later mentioned the Diamondtron. Feels like one of those posts on here everyone calls BS.
Hope for some help and thoughts on these! Besides their few faults I’m more than happy with them. Also originally thought the purity issues were caused by my Sony hifi on top of the stand but nothing changed the purity issues when I moved the speakers and they could even be shielded for all I know (CMT-HPX9) so it’s either the yoke, it needs external degauss, or the grill is F’ed but I’m sure it’s just the yoke. (Hope it is at least)
Definitely keeping the 30” unless one of the SFP models show up somewhere nearby, and if I fix the issue there will be no need to upgrade especially if the SFP I find is worn, but I’d find it odd if it would be.

I also included a picture of my original setups, there were no color issues with the Hifi speakers near the Sharp unless I put them practically a few inches from the glass which leads me to think they may be shielded. Definitely gonna look for a 20” or so SD set for SD stuff as I don’t have the room for the 27” anymore nor do I think my desk will be very happy with +200lbs on it constantly even though it’s all wood and incredibly sturdy. Swapping out the smaller monitor for the Gateway on my desk as well! And yes I like using the HP a whole lot more for almost everything than my widescreen, other than widescreen media and videos of course. Still find it funny how the curved monitor is literally 2” bigger than the Wega but is literally 10x smaller.
Also one note for anyone who gets a 30HS420, I absolutely do NOT recommend moving it yourself as the almost 3 foot width is terrible to get a good grip on but it is most definitely doable if you hate your back. With some good lifting experience it’s not too hard for me to move it around in and out of the stand solo so it’s not impossible to move and get yourself but is an absolutely not amazing idea.
Looks really really nice, wish I could figure out a way to get 240p to work but I’m super happy with this thing regardless, I got it because it can do 2k anyway. Should be able to go higher but was running 640x480p at 100hz, can go up to 2048x1536 at 75hz with no flicker or any issues. I love this thing! Last pic is Minecraft at 2k scaled down to 1280x1024 or whatever because I didn’t have the adapter to achieve anything over 1900x1200 at 60hz at the moment.
Got incredibly lucky, was thinking after getting the Systemax DE-770, maybe it would be nice to have something a little bigger? And holy was this thing worth the price. 21” and 19.8” viewable I believe with an Aperture grill tube still incredibly bright at 55 contrast and 25 brightness. Running at 2048x1536 at 80hz (true 2k) with 0 flicker or any issues. Had some black markings on the shell which were fixed with a little magic eraser. Some of my desktop is visible on the right side for some reason? Not certain why but is of no bother to me. An absolutely beautiful monitor on its own even at its native max of 1600x1200. Only issue I have is that geometry tends to change a bit even after warmup so I typically have to adjust it a little, besides this little thing, it’s still in essentially perfect working condition. If you have any suggestions of what to do with it, lmk! I’m using it for everything currently and favor it way over my flatscreen since everything looks so much better on it. Just one tip, always keep looking and never give up, if you do, you might miss out on something as incredible as this, if youre currently hunting for something similar, I wish you the best of luck!
Definitely not the best pics ever, but It’s my first PC CRT and my absolute favorite CRT in general I’ve used. Came out in 1999 I believe, natively 1024x768 at a max of 85hz but can’t believe how good it looks even in relation to my curved 1080p LCD. First pic is at 45 contrast and 25 brightness, obviously in the perfect environment but I believe that it shows just how healthy this thing still is. The others should be at 60-65 contrast and still relatively low brightness from what I remember definitely sub 50, maybe 25-35. Few small scratches in the anti glare and likely the glass in the center of the screen but otherwise has no damage. Missing a screw and still such a nice non-yellowed color. Let me know some cool stuff to use it for, because I’ve been using it for practically everything. Only way I’d ever swap it out is if I’d find a bigger set as it’s a 16”, but honestly I’d say it’s probably the best for the resolution anyway. Payed $60 which I know is probably much more than anyone would like to pay for a completely forgotten brand but due to the seemingly low wear and how much I actually use it, it’s completely worth the price, especially compared to all the crazy eBay listings with even standard VGA sets being over $100. Probably the best in person example of “Number of Hours is more important than the brand” I’ve seen. No clue if there’s a way to see the hours though.
So at first I thought this was likely a wear/burn in issue, but now I wonder if it’s from an internal component going bad as the line of the darker portion of the screen can actually stretch left and right unevenly forming a different shape. So it’s not likely that the area is just worn and darker as it can also overlap the lighter area. Does anyone have any clue what specifically can cause this?

Otherwise, there is some outline to the right of certain shapes, like on dvd playback, characters and elements can have a white outline of their shape slightly to the right of them, no video settings change this or affect it.
Thing is the color issue becomes invisible on most screens consisting of multiple different colors and non similar colors. It is also completely invisible on a solid white screen, mostly only visible on a darker screen.
Regardless, for being 28 years old, this thing is incredibly solid!
Sharp 27K-S300 with original remote I got for free today. Only issue is remote was working fine for a little while now all button presses just have the input marker show up in the top right, swapping out with -0 whenever I hit any button, I removed the top shell and pressed each button without the rest of the membrane present and the issue still persists, I’ve cleaned it a few times already and it worked once or twice between. Just don’t know if the remote is likely a lost cause. The IR LED is also constantly on and turns off whenever a button is pressed and the issue only occurs when the membrane is present, regardless of how much touches the board.
Just picked this up yesterday off facebook. Was really dirty and has a light tobacco smoke smell to it, but I cleaned it and so far I haven’t had a single issue. Currently got my PS3 Slim hooked up for YouTube and games as well as a dedicated Blu ray player for movies and whatnot. Produced in October 2006 so it’s only 19 years old at this point. Wanted a bigger set since it was a bit difficult to play Halo 2 multiplayer on my Broksonic 13” SC-864 DVD combo. Just thought it was neat since I haven’t seen barely anything about this set online. Only real issue is that the button to change the channel for inputs only works half the time, and compatible remotes are like $35? 20 inch is definitely the perfect size for me, and this thing has very minimal bowing at the corners of the picture, and the geometry seems pretty near perfect so I’m not gonna mess with it at all! Let me know if you guys have any suggestions for some other stuff to do with it as well!
