Feeling like Goldilocks 🤦‍♀️

I AM IN A SLUMP! No book is suiting my needs right now. Too cutesey, too much smut, too dark, too long.

And if I come across a blurb that manages to make my brain go “yesssss!!”… It turns out to be an incomplete series! And that’s probably the last thing I should get into.

And it’s not this genre, it’s all genres! I tried the age old trick to switch genres when in a slump, it isn’t working cause nothing is able to hold my attention!!!

Even tried to reread an old fav, even that couldn’t hold my attention.

I can’t read!!! I really want to read but I can’t!
How Do I Fix This??

(I wasn’t sure if this came under discussion or rant)

Sugar Life series by Harley Madison, the last book drops today, right?

Exactly what the title says,
The author has mentioned in her newsletter that the fourth book, Baby Girl, will be released today.

But Goodreads doesn't even have the book; there has been no talk in this subreddit either (or maybe there has, but I missed it)...

Edit: By today, I mean the 29th of July; I just remembered that time zones are a thing 😂

Book/Series name…

My brain has been hyper fixating on text it saw written in a book in italic under a mmc’s pov.

“How very anti-loyalist of you”

And he wasn’t speaking, the fmc (probably) said something and this was his inner thought.

Other than that i remember nothing. I have no idea what this particular brand of nurodivergency is but my brain can literally see this phrase (or it’s making it up) anyway… it’s 1am, I can’t sleep…. Please help.

Solved: thanks for the hint guys… it was Ironside academy but none of the books, it was a bonus scene from mikki’s pov…

Have I read every 5 star series out there?

Probably not, but it sure feels like it.
I want books like
{Gypsy blood by Kristy Kunning}
{Blood oath by Morgan B Lee}
{The deadwood series by Marie Mistry}
{Umbra Hunters by BM Clemton}
{Ironside by Jane Washington}
{Just drive by Devyn Sinclair} (standalone)

The character interaction, the plot, it’s all sooo… i don’t even know how to describe the feeling, I just know I am craving it. A 5 star read, that’s all I want.

(I do realise my 5 star would not be someone else’s 5 star, so if the books above were your 5 stars, could you rec me something like that too?)

Edit: I little mm is fine but i prefer the fmc to be the centre (if it has mm please mention it)

Should I keep reading The Fifth Nicnevin?

I finished the first book, and it seems 2 out of her 5 mates are assholes, and the 2 out of 3 mates that are not assholes have their own baggage.

The fmc is a doormat, and while I love a soft fmc, I need her to show some spine when the situation calls for it. Do her mates ever grovel? I read the reviews for the next books of the series, and it looks like all the hurt she faced from them was shoved under the rug.

I want them to go all lovey-dovey with her, I want them to dote on her like that one decent mate does. Does that happen? And if it does, is it too late in the series? I don't want to read such a long and slow-progressing series if I don't get the emotional payoff.

Does anyone know more songs like these...

Recently, a series introduced me to a new genre of songs (I don't even know what the genre is called), and if anyone knows the genre or more songs like these, I would love some recommendations.

The songs I have been listening to on repeat for the past few days:

  1. Dancing with Myself by Generation X
  2. The bitch is back by Elton John
  3. Baby now that I've found you... by The Foundations

Want to Trade Recs?

I have nothing to read, and I can't find any recommendations that interest me.
So maybe we can trade recs? (Please include selling points in your recs)

Here is my list of unique, underhyped books:

1. If you are in the mood for a fun, romcom-style, well-written, standalone:

{Just Drive by Devyn Sinclair} - A standalone omegaverse. The FMC is the first female F1 racer, and all of the MMCs have some role in the F1 (One of them is a racer for a rival team, so that was fun). I really loved this book.

This book was sooo good I read almost all other books by this author (none of them lived up to this book but they were great too.)

One thing I love the most about Devyn Sinclair books is the meet-cutes. From the very first moment they meet, they are scent sympathetic, so they know they will end up together. There is a lot of Insta lust, but not Insta love. So if that's your thing, you will really like her work. It got me out of a slump, too. It really felt like reading an RH romcom with a plot. Also made me an f1 fan (and if you don’t know anything about F1, like I didn’t, the author wrote an entire guide)

2. If you are in the mood for spice with a side of suspense/thriller plot:

{killer of mine by Alexis Grace} book one of “of mine” series

-completed trilogy
-fbi agents (mmcs and later fmc)
-mystery and thriller-
-serial killers
-hidden identity (only for the first 3 or 4 chapters)

• Fmc is the daughter of a serial killer. She faked her death and became a detective (aspiring fbi agent) to catch her father. She trespassed at one of the MMCs’ crime scenes that her father left behind. They figure out who she is, and boom, her story starts. on the darker side, but we also have a complete cinnamon roll in the harem alongside a nerd, an asshole (who kinda does have a reason to hate her) and a controlling bastard.
TW: This book has a dark setting and has kinky spice.

3. If you are in the mood for an innocent fmc (with a spine and a character arc) and utterly devoted MMCs from the very first moment you meet them:

{My prison pen pals by Shona Knight} - The fmc was groomed by her brother to be a perfect wife for his business partner since she was 5. She accidentally wrote to 4 men in prison, thinking she was writing to orphans in an orphanage, and they have been pen pals for 9 months. She found out her brother is planning to sell her, and she ran away from home, sending one last letter to her pen pals. They escape prison (the how is a spoiler), find her and go on the run to hide from her brother and his business partner.
Again, not the best written book, and the first few chapters are cheesy and cringy, but it gets better (or you get used to it). Tho the character interaction is top tier.

4. If you are in the mood for grovel and angst:

{Sweetheart by Marie Mackay} - This is a little similar to Pack Darling, but at the same time very different. She is their scent match, but she has been dark bonded (explained in the book) and sent to them as a beta to help the pack (the pack is falling apart). All except one treat her horribly in their own way. The next book is a grovel book.

5. If you are in the mood for a not-too-dark fantasy series with an amazing found family and a kickass fmc (Literally):

{Umbra Hunters by BM Clemton} - Monsters exist, she can see them. Something like Shadowhunters, but different. She can see monsters, and then she is found by the Umbra Hunters, taken to a castle to train to become an Umbra Hunter. Oh, and she also saved one of the MMC's life. Can't tell much without spoiling, but it's a great series. The covers are a bit of a turn-off; ignore them.
(and another person made a post on Reddit about this series, and that's what sold me on reading it. The Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ReverseHarem/comments/1k8o130/this_post_is_both_to_rave_on_how_amazing_the/ )

6. If you are in the mood for a DARK high fantasy where half the things go above your head, yet you can't stop reading cause the chemistry is THAT good:

{A tempest of shadows by Jane Washington} - this book is a little hard to get into (like the first book onwards it’s great), the scenes between the mmcs and fmcs (the banter, I love the banter) make it sooo worth it. Please check tws tho (i cannot stress this enough, check tws. There is a scene at the start of the first book where fmc who is a minor at that time, is raped, and it is thought the MMCs orchestrated it. That is so not the case, and the rapist was dealt with. Can’t say more without spoiling.

Need more convincing for this book? Here is an excerpt: “She’ll need protection.” Vale spoke as though he was talking to himself. “Oh really?” Helki asked sarcastically. “What can you protect her from that we can’t?” “From the four of you,” Vale replied, a cruel smile twisting his lips. “I promise to protect her from a beast—” He pointed to Helki. “—a machine,” he continued, pointing to Andel, and then he paused, his finger aimed at Vidrol. “A bastard,” I supplied, reaching out and nudging his finger in Fjor’s direction. “And a sadist.”
This is from book 3. Tho be warned, this is a slowww burn. And this series might not be everyone's cup of tea...
