Has anyone watched "The Invite" ? What do y'all think about it if so ?

I found the movie to be great ! The writing is tight and sharp. It wastes no time with it's very dense screenplay. I was really impressed by how well the 4 main characters are fleshed out.

Although I was slightly thrown off by the revelation they built up throughout the first act and halfway through the second, the film still handled that subject matter nicely.

I especially loved how the cinematography made maximum use of the interiors of the apartment. It's almost like the 5th character.

The funniest thing in this movie was, >!Hawk (Howie) being a genuinely chill human being. They introduce and portray him like someone who could be a manipulative creep. But bro is just a nice guy who loves rugs and wanted some sex cause of the signals hahaha.!<

I probably will rewatch the film cause of how beautiful the climax scene is. Kudos to Olivia Wilde.

How many of y'all have watched Kannathil Muthamittal ?

This movie's spinal cord is the Sri Lankan civil war. It's very interesting how for a movie which's driving force is the war, the film never let's war take the front seat.

They take a route of not letting human beings be symbols of factions before letting us judge them as individuals.

The film represents how war is essentially seen from a 9 year old's perspective. It's almost as if the film-maker is trying to not glorify any portion of war as a whole. Instead, the act of war itself is seen as something that is repulsive. It gracefully lets us pity the ones consumed in it and affected by it.

I personally think that the best scene in the movie is,

>!The shootout between the LTTE and The Sri Lankan army that breaks out in a play-ground. The whole sequence is devastatingly shot in very high frame rate with very little slowing down. !<

>!If watched without audio, one may mistaken it for a scene ripped out of any action movie. !<

>!The difference in this scene however, is that the score actively argues with whatever that is visually present on screen. The racy action is broken down to sympathize with, rather than enjoy, using a score than is sombrely melancholic. !<

Oh and, It also has beautifully shot scenes that take place in Colombo itself. I've rarely ever seen it captured so beautifully in film. There were times where I was literally like, "Hey I know that place !"

I love this movie to bits and I think y'all should check it out when it possible to do so.

Hot Take - I think that F1 suffered from being fully shot in IMAX, and that worries me about the fate of The Odyssey.

I have watched a decent amount of movies in IMAX. Movies like Sinners, Interstellar, F1 and etc. The least compelling experience I had when in comparison of all my IMAX visits was when I watched F1. Yes, while I get that this may sound like an insane take, this is subjective and you should hear me out.

It's gonna be a slightly extensive write up so bear with me.

Before getting into why I felt the way I felt watching F1, let me explain what the other movies did better. Visual restraint. Notably Interstellar and Sinners.

The combination of Scope (2.39:1) and IMAX (1.90:1 or 1.43:1) enhanced the effect both the films had on me by a lot. Why ? Using the standard cinemascope aspect ratio before expansion of the image in certain scenes makes it feel like it was earned by the director.

Just like how there is both a setup and payoff in a scene, the image expanding with the payoff of a scene just feels a lot more organic in my eyes.

Clear examples for this are,

The scene of Cooper leaving home which transitions into the takeoff in Interstellar and The scene where the vampires are let into the bar in Sinners, both make use of the combination I have mentioned above. And due to that, the effect of IMAX ratio coming into play feels like an extension of the story rather than a mere stylistic choice.

The visual stimulation that me, as a viewer gets when seeing the scene expand into the humongous IMAX screen and fill my field of view while accompanying an emotional beat is a feeling that is unparalleled. It’s almost like a freaking cheat code. The video clip attached below will give you a slight gist of what I mean.

The Cornfield Chase Scene, Interstellar. Dir. Christopher Nolan. Dop. Hoyte van Hoytema

These are reasons for which I found F1 to not be half as compelling as it could have been. I won’t lie, the opening Nascar race scene felt really good but the novelty wore off about 15 minutes later due to the lack of contrast.

The scene where Cooper leaves home works so well because, it is not only the image that opens up. The score and emotions of that scene open up to a greater scale as well.

Directors like Ryan Coogler, Christopher Nolan and even Christopher McQuarrie for MI: Dead Reckoning implement restraint in the selection of points where an IMAX expansion will have the most dramatic effect. I find it to be a very efficient storytelling device. Especially in the scenes I have used as examples above.

F1 fails to create the same effect as there is little to no visual restraint. Which is why I can’t help but imagine how much better the experience would have been if it had used a mixture of 2.39:1 and 1.90:1 or 1.43:1. With the latter only being used for races and the immediate scenes after the final feat.

While I understand that Kosinski probably made this decision to have a more unified and uninterrupted experience, I believe that one can only appreciate sugar if there is a little salt.

Which is why I ultimately worry about a marketing tagline of The Odyssey being “Shot Entirely With IMAX Film Cameras".  I hope that Christopher Nolan has found enough variety in how the scenes are directed/shot in The Odyssey to justify an IMAX visit.

Macbook Pro M4 Pro 14” Left Speaker crackling.

Had an issue with the Macbook where the battery failed, therefore I was instructed to change the battery + plus top case.

Everything including the speakers were replaced.

The Macbook worked fine after getting it repaired, battery was at 100% and worked like a charm.

Yet last night, there left speaker randomly started to crackle. I took it back to the store and they’re like,

“We have to diagnose the MacBook, it will take 3-5 days” like I already didn’t have to hand it over for 2 weeks for the last case.

They also told me that it could be the motherboard and if so, I will have to pay a hefty amount to get it fixed.

I lowkey might never get an apple machine again cause of all these QC issues.

Did anyone else face the same issue and find a fix ?

Possibly faulty Macbook unit. Will authorized dealers fix it for free ?

Tldr : A very new Macbook Pro that’s just 3 months past the warranty period got bricked with no signs of life. Retailer insists that I may have to pay a charge even if the fault was on apple or the unit itself.

I got an M4 Pro Macbook Pro last year in February. The warranty ended 3 months ago. Everything was fine, the Macbook was working perfectly well.

A very few days ago I updated to the last Tahoe version and continued using it, still worked fine up until day before yesterday. I closed all the apps and closed the lid as always and went to sleep.

Couldn’t use the Macbook yesterday as I was busy, only to come home and to see that it’s unresponsive. No charging indicator through magsafe, not charging through usb and no signs of life at all.

I researched a little and found out that this had happened to many users after updating their OS. I’m 1000% sure that it was nothing wrong done in my part and it’s the unit’s or apple’s fault.

When I called the retailer that I purchased this from, they told me that they will give it to futureworld but I’ll most probably have to pay.

Why would I have to pay if the unit is faulty or if it’s Apple’s fault ? I explained this but my retailer insisted that I may have to pay regardless.

Don’t authorized dealers have the ability to inform apple about an issue on their part ? Or even honor a faulty unit? I would accept charges if it was a battery health issue or cosmetic issue but this is insane.

I don’t have an apple store in my country and can’t seem to find a way to directly contact them. Feeling lost.

Do y’all have any thoughts on this ? Has this happened to anyone else ?

Does anyone know whether Curry Barker’s Obsession will release over here ?

Why does our country always have issues with bringing down certain films ? Talk to me only came after it started to massively trend on social media.

Bring her back did not release at all. Materialists didn’t release although scope cinemas announced it online.

I remember I had to resort to the Majestic city cinema as only they had Longlegs when it came out.

Now it’s this movie’s turn. The Indian release is on the 29th of May. I’m just hoping that it releases over here.
