MacBook Pro 13 inch 2019

I had got this from my sister. Reset it all and erased all data. Shut it down. Then erased Macintosh HD data. Then tried to reinstall macOS as it took 50 minutes. Now its doing this. It was 100% charged beforehand, so its not the battery.

Horizontal lines appeared on Macbook Pro (Model A1990)

Hi everyone, just wanna know if anybody has experienced the same thing as me and if there’s any solution to solve this problem, I really cant afford to lose my laptop especially during my peak work months.

Im trying ‘Start Up Recovery’ recommended by a user somewhere under a Reddit post and currently hoping it works, (i’m 90% it wont work though), appreciate it if anybody can share their experience with this one.

And what exactly causes this? im not a tech savvy btw, please use simple words.

Thank youx

Update post. A2780 MBP M2 Pro 16" display issue

About a week ago these visual issues have started, which I have assumed were linked to the flex cable that goes into the display assembly itself, making it impossible to fix.

The issue is triggered either by pressing the plastic bottom bezel at the left corner, or by moving the orientation of the screen.

I put my laptop for sale on a local marketplace, and someone called today saying the same happened to his 16" M1 Pro. He told me a repair shop has successfully repaired it by replacing a ribbon cable hidden behind the said plastic bezel strip, and the repair cost him very little money.

Does anyone have any idea about what exactly could've went bad so I can explain it to technicians that would attempt a repair for the laptop?

So far, I've just been quoted a full display assembly replacement costing from 800 to 1000€, which isn't an option. Thanks

What's wrong with my MacBook screen?

I have a Macbook Pro 16 inch 2021, A2485 running on MacOS Tahoe 26.5.1. A few hours ago, the screen stopped working. At first I thought the screen was completely dead, but now thats it's dark outside I can actually see thats it's displaying something. I was planning to go to the repair shop tomorrow since everything online says that I have to replace the screen. Is there anything I can do? I didn't drop it or squish anything in it. I don't know what happened. Please help

MacBook Pro M1 Pro wouldn't turn on for an entire day, then suddenly booted after charging overnight

I have a 14-inch MacBook Pro (M1 Pro). Yesterday it suddenly wouldn't turn on. The last time I used it, it was working perfectly. I simply closed the lid to put it to sleep, and when I tried using it later, it was completely unresponsive.

Here's what happened:

  • Pressing the power button did nothing.
  • The trackpad had no haptic click at all.
  • I tried different USB-C chargers and cables, but it still wouldn't turn on.
  • I couldn't get any response using the usual power button methods.

After leaving it connected to the charger overnight, I woke up this morning and found that it had powered on by itself.

Battery Health currently:
Cycle Count: 671
Condition: Normal
Maximum Capacity: 80%

A few questions:

  1. Is this expected behavior on Apple Silicon Macs after a deep discharge?
  2. Has anyone else had their Mac appear completely dead (including no trackpad click) and then recover after charging overnight?
  3. Should I be worried about the battery or logic board, or was this just the battery management system protecting itself?

For now the Mac is working normally, but I'd like to know whether this is a one-off event or an early sign that the battery needs replacement.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Battery connector on M2 Macbook Air not going in - Need tips

Hey! So I've just done a logic board replacement on this MacBook, but for whatever reason I can't align the pins for the battery to go in, I'm not sure if I'm being stupid in the way I put it in.

Would appreciate some help! Thank you

Edit: the plastic on the connector is peeling off slightly because of the amount of times I've had to lift it up and try form it 🥲😭

I Repair MacBooks Every Day – Here Are 10 Mistakes That End Up Costing People Thousands

I've been repairing MacBooks professionally for years, and I keep seeing the same mistakes that turn a small repair into a very expensive one. I thought I'd share a few tips that might help someone avoid unnecessary repair costs.

1. Continuing to use a liquid-damaged MacBook

Even if the MacBook still turns on after a spill, corrosion can continue to spread inside the logic board. Power it off immediately and get it inspected.

2. Ignoring battery swelling

A swollen battery isn't just a battery problem—it can damage the trackpad, keyboard, and even the display if left unchecked.

3. Using cheap chargers

Low-quality chargers may cause charging issues or damage the charging circuit over time. Using a certified charger is always a safer option.

4. Trying random YouTube fixes

Some guides are helpful, but others recommend procedures that can make the damage worse, especially for liquid damage or motherboard issues.

5. Waiting too long after a screen crack

A cracked display can allow dust or moisture inside the assembly, making the repair more complicated later.

6. Never backing up important data

Many customers only think about backups after a hardware failure. Regular backups can save a lot of stress.

7. Ignoring overheating

Frequent overheating could indicate dust buildup, cooling issues, or failing internal components. Addressing it early can prevent bigger problems.

8. Assuming every display issue means a bad screen

Sometimes the problem is actually a damaged display cable, backlight circuit, or logic board—not the display panel itself.

9. Delaying repairs because the laptop still works

Small hardware issues often become larger and more expensive over time.

10. Choosing a repair shop based only on the lowest price

A proper diagnosis, experienced technicians, and a warranty are usually more important than saving a small amount upfront.

These are general tips based on repairs I've seen over the years. If you're experiencing a specific issue with your MacBook, let me know the model number (for example, A2337, A2681, or A2141) and the symptoms. I'll do my best to point you in the right direction.

I'm happy to answer questions and discuss repair options with the community.

Frankenstein MB Air m1 Rebuild Advice?

EDIT: Don't over think things! I decided it'd be worth taking one more stab at popping off the caps for the troublesome keys. Cleaned them with isopropal in and around the scissor switches and now they work great! Not 100% factory perfect, but way better than before and they actually feel like keyboard keys now. Problems solved!!

tldr: how important is reapplying the adhesive? Will I be ok with just re-screwing the main parts? Any other concerns I should have with this frankenstein project?

I have two used m1 MacBook Air laptops (a2337) and, between the two, I should have enough parts for one working computer. This would be a repair for mostly my personal use. I have disassembled and reassembled other laptops before, but older laptops that are not as propietary or glued down as most Apple products. Here's the story so far:

MB 1 (basically a donor unit): had a good screen, probably good keyboard, not sure what else is salvagable. Last user reported that an Apple store said the charging ports were going bad, then the battery died and it never turned on again despite charging a lot on both USB-C ports. After disassembly, found very small spots of corrosion on the USB-C and headphone jack daughter boards. Keyboard & trackpad ~~feel~~ fine but unable to seriously test. Was supposedly working fine, other than charging issue, until battery died last. Batteries seem to have no damage or bloating, and no other board corrosion (that I could see from just a screen removal job).

MB 2 (recipient device) Seemed to be 90% good. Had a broken screen, then later found out it had a few keyboard quirks. Otherwise great, just some cosmetic scuffs.

My original goal was to just pull the screen off MB1, slap it in MB2 and call it a day. I did that, and that worked great until I was able to actually boot up MB2 with the donor screen and see that some keyboard keys only work inconsistently. The usually work, but feel like some of the scissor aparatus parts are damaged from use. I did some research on iFixIt and found out that keyboard replacement is an almost entire disassembly.

So new goal: disassemble MB1 more, put the good parts (motherboard, port daughter boards) from MB2 onto the keyboard/frame upper from MB1, possibly keep trackpad+speakers+batteries from MB1 to avoid disassembling parts that are glued in (and have a chance of actually being ok still), and get back to one fully working MacBook. I really want to avoid ungluing parts from the frame, and don't currently have the right kind of adhesives to re-glue them if I do.

Does this all sound reasomable? Are there any other warning signs or considerations I should keep in mind? Am I just asking for trouble doing this myself? I have a local repair shop that I would probably take on the job for just labor cost since I'm supplying the parts (and all official Apple parts too). Just wanted to avoid paying someone else to finish my originally-supposed-to-be-free 45min ewaste salvage project. Maybe I should just live with the kinda wonky keyboard, or even pass these along to someone else as cheap parts for more relairing reputable MacBooks?

Anyway, thanks for hearing this out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated in the comments!

What’s the difference between these MacBook Pro fans? One with a metal cap and one without

So one of the fans on my 2015 15’ MacBook Pro started to make a scraping noise and I plan on replacing the fans as a pair since they don’t cost much, I’ve noticed there are fans with a metal like cap on it and ones without it, what is the difference between these variations? Is one an improved one? Both fans are for the same laptop model

My Macbook Air M1 screen turned black

My Macbook Air M1 screen turned black suddenly a few days ago.
Now if turned on it chimes, shows the apple logo and goes dark in seconds, I tried connecting to an external monitor but shows the same black screen there too. Tried all the keyboard combinations from youtube, no result. Tried recovery from my mac mini but didn't solve the issue.
Any advice on what else can i try?

MacBook Pro M4 Pro completely dead—No MagSafe light, won't turn on. Anyone experienced this?

Hey everyone,

I’m facing a sudden and stressful issue with my MacBook Pro (M4 Pro chip) and could really use some insight or advice if anyone has gone through something similar.

The Situation:

Today, I tried to turn it on after leaving it completely unused for about a week. Absolutely nothing happens. It is completely dead.

What I’ve tried/checked:

Power Source: I connected the MagSafe charger, but the MagSafe LED light doesn’t even turn on (no amber, no green, completely unlit).

Battery Level: I am highly confident the battery shouldn't be completely drained; I almost always use it plugged into the charger to preserve battery health and keep the cycle count low.

Force Restart: I tried holding down the power/Touch ID button for 15–20 seconds, but there is no sign of life—no screen backlight, no Apple logo, no fan spin, and no trackpad haptic click.

Physical Condition: The laptop is practically brand new (bought about a year ago), has never been dropped, has zero physical damage, and has never been near liquid.

It was working flawlessly the last time I shut it down.
Has anyone with an M4-generation MacBook experienced a sudden logic board failure, a bad PMIC (Power Management IC), or a known issue where the MagSafe port completely stops recognizing power? What could this be?

Appreciate any help or troubleshooting steps I might have missed before I schedule an Apple Store appointment!

What are some things i'm supposed to check before/after getting my macbook screen replaced by a third party store?

My macbook pro m1 16" screen broke, cat bit into it while i was asleep but currently its just showing flickering lines and its not that bad so im waiting on it. I checked in with an AASP and they told me i have to pay the equivalent of around 1300$ to get it repaired, and im frankly not doing that. I found a good third party option for around 450$ that claims it has an OEM screen (its used so it has a few wear and tear but i'll see for myself before they put it on) for my macbook but its not a very popular center and I dont trust it too much, but its my only option.

do you guys recommend i should just go for it once my screen goes completely black and unusuable? what are some things i should check before/after i get it installed? i just have some safety concerns cause 450$ is still not that cheap and im afraid of them messing up my macbook completely.

just fyi upgrading is not an option because i got this macbook as a gift just recently and i really want to fix this one.

[SOLVED] MacBook Air M2 (A2681/Mac14,2) - Internal Display, Keyboard & Trackpad Dead - Fixed by Replacing Lid Angle Sensor (821-04129)

I wanted to document this because I couldn't find many posts with the exact same symptoms, and this ended up being a $20 CAD fix instead of replacing the display or logic board.

Mac

  • MacBook Air 13.6" (2022)
  • Model: A2681
  • Model Identifier: Mac14,2
  • Apple M2
  • 8GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • macOS Tahoe 26.3

Symptoms

The Mac appeared to have a major hardware failure.

Worked perfectly

  • Booted normally
  • Fresh installation of macOS completed successfully
  • External monitor worked perfectly
  • External keyboard worked perfectly
  • Bluetooth mouse worked perfectly
  • All USB-C ports worked
  • Apple Diagnostics passed with no errors

Didn't work

  • Internal display
  • Built-in keyboard
  • Built-in trackpad

One strange thing...

The internal display would briefly work in Recovery, which immediately made me question whether the LCD itself was actually faulty.

Diagnostics

Instead of immediately buying parts, I wanted to determine exactly what was happening.

1. Apple Diagnostics

Passed.

No hardware faults reported.

That immediately made me question whether this was really a logic board failure.

2. External display

Worked flawlessly.

No GPU problems.

3. USB-C

Every USB-C port functioned normally.

4. system_profiler

Running:

system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType

Only showed my external Dell monitor.

The built-in Liquid Retina display wasn't even detected by macOS.

5. pmset

Running:

pmset -g assertions

didn't reveal much by itself, so I started looking deeper into the system logs.

6. System logs

This is where everything changed.

The logs repeatedly showed the Mac believed the lid was closed, even though it was physically open.

Examples:

SelfTrigger on Mac cannot be turned on since clamshell is closed

DisplayOn: 1, isPluggedIn 1, isClamshelled 1

policy state {clamshelled: YES, inFullWake: YES}

hasClamshell:1;
clamshellClosed:1;

This was the breakthrough.

Instead of assuming the display was dead, I started investigating why macOS thought the lid was closed.

Finding the solution

Eventually I came across a YouTube repair where the Mac had identical symptoms.

Exactly the same:

  • Internal display missing
  • Keyboard dead
  • Trackpad dead
  • External monitor worked
  • Apple Diagnostics passed
  • Mac believed the lid was closed

The repair?

Replace the lid angle sensor flex cable.

Apple part number:

>821-04129

Cost:

About $20 CAD on Amazon.

At that price it was absolutely worth trying before replacing a display assembly.

Installation

The repair itself is actually pretty straightforward.

The hardest part is dealing with Apple's incredibly tiny screws.

Steps:

  • Remove bottom cover
  • Disconnect battery
  • Replace lid angle sensor flex cable
  • Reconnect battery
  • Boot

No logic board removal required.

macOS Tahoe surprised me

As soon as the Mac booted:

Settings → General → About → Parts & Service

reported:

>Finish Your Lid Angle Sensor Repair

Selecting it launched Repair Assistant.

It:

  • Detected the replacement sensor
  • Asked me to fully open the lid, and fully close the lid (at each point you wait for a beep)
  • Performed calibration
  • Verified the part

No Apple Configurator.

No DFU mode.

No second Mac.

No Apple Service Toolkit.

After calibration it reported:

>Lid Angle Sensor ,This is a genuine Apple part.

I honestly wasn't expecting Apple to make this repair that straightforward.

Result

Everything immediately worked again.

✅ Internal display

✅ Keyboard

✅ Trackpad

✅ Sleep/Wake

✅ Lid detection

The Mac is now functioning perfectly.

Conclusion

If your MacBook Air M2 A2681 / Mac14,2 has:

  • Internal display not detected
  • Keyboard dead
  • Trackpad dead
  • External monitor works
  • Apple Diagnostics passes
  • Logs repeatedly mention:
    • clamshellClosed
    • isClamshelled
    • clamshelled: YES

Don't immediately assume you need a display assembly or logic board.

Check the lid angle sensor flex cable (821-04129) first.

For me, it was a $20 CAD repair that brought the entire Mac back to life.

Edit

One thing I found interesting is that the internal display would still work in Recovery while macOS wouldn't even enumerate it. Combined with the repeated clamshellClosed messages in the logs, that turned out to be the biggest clue that the problem wasn't the LCD panel itself but the lid angle sensor subsystem.

Hopefully this saves someone else from replacing an expensive display or logic board when the real fix is a $20 cable.

MacBook Pro 2015 kernel panic/restarting/crashing on login

Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with my MacBook Pro 13” Early 2015 (MacBookPro12,1) running macOS Monterey 12.7.6.
A few days ago, my Mac wouldn’t boot properly, so I took it to a repair shop. They opened the bottom cover and cleaned the inside. After the cleaning, the Mac worked perfectly for about two days.
Then the exact same problem came back.
Current symptoms:
Sometimes it freezes or restarts at the login screen.
Sometimes there are lines on the screen.
Sometimes I enter my password, the progress bar reaches about 30–40%, then the Mac suddenly powers off and restarts.
Sometimes it reaches the desktop, but after a minute or two (for example, while opening Chrome), it suddenly crashes and reboots.
The same thing happens even in Safe Mode.
I erased the SSD and performed a clean installation of macOS Monterey 12.7.6, before all of this happened
I captured a kernel panic, and the backtrace references:
IO80211FamilyLegacy
AirPort.BrcmNIC
Apple Diagnostics had previously reported PPM002.
Any advice on what I should check next would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Screen replacement MacBook M2 A2338

Hi there,
It is my first time trying to repair a MacBook for myself because of cost. My MacBook’s screen cracked recently and I couldn’t work with half the screen so I decided to replace it with an aftermarket screen from eBay. After following a guide I realized that one of the brackets that hold the cables from the screen had a corroded connection on one end. After screwing the screw down, it came off completely (refer to pictures). I’m clearly not an expert at this so after realizing this, I wanted to test if the bracket was really necessary so I left it as is and turned the laptop on. I heard the startup sound but the screen won’t turn on. I decided not to mess with it anymore and double checked everything else was screwed down and I wasn’t missing anything. I’d appreciate advice to see if I need to return and get a new replacement screen or maybe fix the bracket somehow. Thank you so much.
