I'm working on two MacBooks in parallel, one a 820-2101-A which has Linux but something preventing the LEDs and screen powering up

The other is a spares and repairs gamble that does have a functioning screen but no OS installed

It's a 2007 so I used TransMac to make a Snow Leopard boot disc and put it on USB (it looks like the screenshot when I plug it into my M3 MacBook Air)

I couldn't get it to recognise it though - I held the alt button for a full minute but got nothing but the cursor

Do you

- have to hold it a REALLY long time?
- The thumb drive is USB3.0, which ought to be backwards compatible?
- Should I just get a DVD-R instead and try that, if so anything I need to be aware of?

I could really use some help looking for the most likely reason why having reassembled this machine both LEDs and picture have gone, when working fine before I got involved

I have
- Tried the 'torch trick'
- Tried doing DVI-HDMI out
- Disassembled the display and confirmed 12.5v is getting to the logic board

The situation was it had Linux on it and someone asked me to take a look as fans were running full whack constantly

I put thermal paste on the chips, reassembled and when the machine boots and chimes the fans run normally

However, absolutely no picture and no backlight

I know there are lots of connectors on this thing and given how hot, old and tightly packed in they are, it's not impossible the mere act of disassembling was enough to upset, e.g. the CMOS terminal just fell apart in my hand

I've tried everything can think of, even buying a spares and repairs which is a shitheap compared to this and the LEDs STILL work (alas a different model A1226)

Don't want to give up on it as it feels I'm missing something really stupid

Managed to add her signature (and the special phrase) to my copy of the game which already has been signed by Cherami Leigh and Erika Harlacher

She was so cool and nice and I learned from the last two attempts to just go straight to the signing area on opening and wait second in line rather than that horrible two hour shuffle when it gets busy

Adding Sai Nijima in October making four in a year which is pretty good going for the UK!

Really hope Max Mittelman comes over again

Anyone ever come across an issue like this before? Tiled backgrounds are fine

Attempted diagnostics with Mooneye ROMs and it failed oam_dma/sources-GS.gb consistently at the same address

Wondering if it's the CPU at fault which would be a major problem (have reflowed the data pins) or if some other avenue to explore

I've been doing a lot of work on this amp which started off with blown transistors on FL channel causing protection mode to kick in

I replaced them, got it working, but the volume on FL was way quiet

Found R415 (22 ohm resistor bottom left) had blown and replacing that levelled the volume but ONLY below 40 volume - above that it distorts

I've made a couple of errors since then which don't seem to have 'killed' the board, indeed bypassing protection mode it starts up but I noticed with a thermal camera that C415 is running white hot even with a 275w bulb limiting power input

I want to speed up troubleshooting by using DC bench tester as cold tests are not telling me anything anymore, everything seems to check out

Could I please get some assistance identifying how I'd hook up a single channel DC input to the FL so that I could monitor with a known 'good' channel?

EDITING FOR CLARITY: I DO have a dual channel power supply, I just wanted to start simple but if that's two channels that's fine, I just haven't been able to figure out where to connect them.
