Question about S1 netflix show

In the episode with the senator, Lewis, Anvil, etc. Karen shoots Lewis in the foot while simultaneously disarming the bomb. Me and Gf just cannot figure out at what point she got her gun back to do this, or is it a small detail the show missed? Did billy purposely not have her concealed weapon taken back, even though she asked for it back after her interview? Someone please help, lol.
