I wrote an article about a talking Basking Shark from Staten Island
SCP-9867: Baby Boomer Basking Shark, is the first SCP I've written and added to the wiki, so I'm quite nervous but very excited!
The article follows an anomalous sapient Basking Shark found off the coast of Staten Island that has the ability to speak, out loud, and can be heard from outside the water. This shark has approximate, albeit warped, knowledge of human society, and is found to be rather uncouth in behavior. I wrote the shark to represent a hypothetical toxic family member, and the staff's boundaries they inevitably need to produce for their safety are representative of the real-life boundaries needed when dealing with people like that.
As a bonus for those into science, I put in a great amount of detail on what’s different about the shark physiologically (trying to make it as scientifically accurate as possible, lol), in order to drive home the fact that it doesn’t take in all the details of its environment, only using what it sees with its eyes to judge things, metaphorically relating it to the type of person that lacks critical thinking skills and rushes to judgement.
This article I've been super excited to write (especially since the idea came from a literal fever dream about a month ago when I had the flu), and working with the Moth Squad on the SCP Discord for idea and draft critique was super fun as well.
I'd love any thoughts y'all would have, and hope you enjoy the read!
