I've searched but haven't been able to find much specific discussion about basic setups.

I'm a new rider with a 2025 CRF300L Rally. At this point, I'm not planning any motocamping. I'm planning to do some riding on asphalt and gravel to get to some offroad dirt riding.

What's an ideal simple setup to pack some basics for the day?

I'm thinking a small tail pack. I'm thinking it's better to avoid a tank pack since I'll be offroad riding and it could get in the way. Similarily, I think soft panniers could get in the way offroad and I dont really have a need for that extra capacity for day trips only.

A few questions:

-am I on the right track with my thinking?

-rack or no rack? I'm thinking no tail rack to save weight and just strap it to the fender.

-is 10L a reasonable size or too small for a single pack setup for daytrips?

-any specific pack recommendations?

New rider and new CRF300L Rally owner here.

I am wearing size 12 Alpinestars Tech 7 boots.

TLDR: How do I find the optimal shifter position? What is the optimal shifter position?

Details: In the stock shifter position, I could not fit my boot under the shifter to upshift. I adjusted the shifter so that I can comfortably fit my boot under it. Upshifts are great now. Now the problem is downshifts. I struggle to get my foot on top of the shifter while keeping it on the peg. Essentially my foot comes off the peg to get high enough to get onto the shifter to downshift. If I lower the shifter, then it becomes a challenge to get my foot under it for upshifts.

It doesn't seem I can find a sweet spot with the shifter position where both upshifts and downshifts are comfortable and don't need me to do some awkward movement. I am sure others have dealt with this. I am guessing an aftermarket shifter might help but before that, is there a compromise on the position for either upshifts or down shifts that is ideal? Any tips for finding an optimal position?
