Who has the best rate for a new US license holder?

2023 Honda Rebel 1100, garaged in the Valley, pleasure use, about 7,000 miles a year, no accidents or tickets. I rode in France for over ten years but only got my US license in 2026, so I have zero insurance history here, and my quotes reflect that.

I am with Progressive right now and looking to compare before renewal.

Who are you with, what are you paying, and did anything actually bring your premium down?

Thanks a lot.

How to tryout a motorcycle?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Honda Rebel 1100T DCT, and I found a great used 2023 model that I'm seriously considering.

The problem is that I haven't been able to test ride one. Every private seller I've contacted has declined because of liability concerns, which I completely understand. I also reached out to a few Honda dealerships, but none of them were willing to offer a test ride either.

I'd really like to ride one for a few hours, or even just half a day, before spending $9,000 on it. I have a valid motorcycle license, riding experience, and I'm more than happy to pay for a rental.

Does anyone know where I could rent a Rebel 1100 DCT or 1100T DCT in the Los Angeles area? Or if anyone here owns one and rents it through Riders Share or another platform, I'd love to hear from you.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and ride safe! 🏍️

Riders of LA, how aware are drivers here?

Hey everyone, I'm considering picking up motorcycle riding here in LA and wanted to hear from local riders before I commit.

For context, I rode in Paris for over 10 years. Paris is a pretty wild city for two wheels, dense traffic, narrow streets... Definitely wild concrete jungle feeling lol. Intense, but there, drivers are mostly aware of their surroundings.

Then I spent 2 years in Nashville, TN. What struck me there was the complete lack of awareness drivers had for motorcyclists. People never used turn signals, never checked mirrors before merging, it really felt like bikes just didn't register on their radar. Honestly very frustrating.

Now I just moved to LA and trying to figure out what to expect. Are drivers here generally aware of motorcyclists? Is lane splitting actually understood and accepted in practice, or just legal on paper? Any specific freeways or areas you'd avoid as a rider?

For context, I'm not one of those reckless riders splitting at 80 between cars. I ride carefully, always have. Never had an accident in over a decade.

One more question while I'm here: how does motorcycle parking work in LA? Are there designated zones, or do you just use any free curb space, sidewalks? Trying to figure out if it's a non issue or a daily headache.

Thanks, y'all!
