I work in a (physically) very small office with two other women. One is my age (46) and one is near 70.

I'll call them Sam and Mandy. They're both constantly on their phones because of course they are.

Yesterday, Mandy was scrolling on her phone and starts cackling, like she often does. "Oh. My. GAWD. Did you see that Mayor Pete whatever got CPS called on them?"

Sam: "OH. YEAH. That is HILARIOUS."

I knew they were assholes but I'm stunned into silence. They chat about it for a few minutes, Sam saying "I know I don't live in South Bend, but I know a lot of people really don't like him."

I calmly state my case. "It doesn't matter how much you don't like a person, you really should leave children out of it."

Sam: "Well, did anything even happen? I didn't care enough to read anything about it." (BUT YOU CARE ENOUGH TO HAVE AN OPINION)

"Yes, their children were removed from the home for 24 hours."

Sam: "Wull, it must have been something, you don't just get your kids tooken (sic) away."

I had to stop talking after that. What makes these people think that this is appropriate for the workplace I SWEAR TO GOD. These two are a real-life gossipy Facebook group and the only reason I cannot stand going to work. Sam is a mother of 3 and Mandy is a great-grandmother ffs. I don't have and don't even like kids - but, like child abuse isn't funny? Neither is gay people having children?

Thank God I'm off work for the next few days because if I had to go in sooner I'd just pack up and leave. It's something everyday with these two, but this is the worst.

Thanks for letting me vent and if anyone has any advice other than noise-canceling headphones, I'm all ears.
