Today’s watchlist

7 Oct 2026 pre-open watchlist

$QQQ closed at a new high, clearing the June peak after a 3-month range. The 10, 20 and 50 are stacked and rising, and the late-Sept pullback held the 10.

Calling it GREEN, but early GREEN: the 50 has barely turned.

Watchlist 🧵

$BE , top of the list, B+

Three weeks of higher lows into the same ceiling on the hourly. Ascending triangle, MAs converging underneath.

Needs expansion through the ceiling on real volume. Until then it's B+.

Same AI-power driver as $FCEL and $FPS, so only one slot.

$TENB B+

A 2-month base resolving up, with flat MAs converged beneath it. On the hourly, a tight 3-day shelf after the run, closing at the high.

Caveat: the August highs sit just overhead and it's already stretched from the 20. B+.

Software infra, no overlap with the rest.

$FCEL , graded but not live, B-

Up 14% out of a multi-month base. Strong, but that's ~2 ADR in a day, and it didn't gap, so it isn't an EP.

Waiting for a tight inside day. B.

Shares a driver with $BE .

$FPS , not live, B-

V-recovery off the Sept low. It already pushed out of its 3-week range, and it's mid-range with heavy supply overhead from the summer decline. B.

AI-power bucket with $BE .

$OUST , not live, B-

The hourly trend is clean, but the daily printed an upper-wick rejection and closed in the lower half of its range. That fails my close-quality check.

B- until that's repaired.

$ASST , not live, B-

A good daily flag after the run. But it closed at the range low, and the hourly is losing its short EMAs. No tight entry. B-.

Crypto beta. It's the best of that bucket, but the bucket only gets one slot.

Process notes: the liquidity gate struck four names before I looked at structure.

Genomics and diagnostics reversed hard together on volume. I'm reading that as a group signal, not as separate pullbacks.

Journal only, not advice.

Monday 14 Sept. A grade setups to watch

Monday 14 Sept. GRADE A SETUPS

Monday pre-open. Regime check before any name, always.

QQQ flat on the 10/20/50 with a four-month range. That's not a trend, it's a box. Under my framework that caps deployment hard — two positions, half size, and the first entry trigger only.

Most of what follows will not be taken.

  1. The one I'd rank first isn't a fresh mover, it gapped Friday and spent today's pre-market doing nothing.

$FEIM. Big volume expansion out of a months-long range, and the day after is holding entirely inside the event bar. No giveback.

That "quiet day two" is the whole tell.

  1. $SGMT is the cleanest non-event structure on my sheet.

10/20/50 stacked and rising. Seven sessions of range contraction at the highs. Each bar narrower than the last.

I don't need a catalyst for this one. Contraction after a trend leg is the setup.

  1. Two more of the same family, lower in the ranking.

$NTSK, coiling on the rising 10-day, hourly based above the longer average.
$VHI, five sessions tight at the highs after a 13.50 to 19 advance. Structurally fine. Thin enough that fill quality, not chart quality, is the real constraint.
Thin names lose on the vehicle gate more often than the structure gate.

  1. Three pullbacks I'm watching but not grading as ready.

$TEAM, $TXG, $PLSE, all in intact uptrends, all pulled back to the 10-day, all with messy hourly structure underneath.

A pullback where the lower timeframe is still chopping usually needs another session. The daily looks done before it is.

  1. $RNG is the patient one. Four weeks of orderly consolidation on the rising 20-day after a July event bar.

It's also caught in an unresolved policy question of mine, how far past an event gap a continuation entry is still valid. That ruling is open, so the name is off the table regardless of how it looks.

Unresolved rulings block capital. That's the point of them.

  1. Now the fresh ones. Four names gapping in pre-market this morning, and they are not equal.

$ELMT is the only one I'd call clean: a large gap out of a multi-month base on enormous volume, into open air. Nothing above it.

  1. The other three fail on the same thing, where the gap lands.

$DFTX gaps straight into its own July supply shelf. $BMM gaps into a descending long-term average inside a downtrend. $BMGL, same problem, thinner.

A big percentage move is not the qualifier. What sits overhead is.

  1. So: twelve names, one flat regime, two slots, and three open rulings taking three of the better structures off the board before I even look at them.

The realistic outcome today is zero positions. That's been the outcome for several sessions running.

A range regime plus unresolved policy is supposed to produce nothing. When it does, the system is working.

  1. Full process write-up on how the gate sequence runs: regime, liquidity, vehicle, structure, extension, correlation.

Today’s Live Watchlist

Regime

QQQ above its 10/20/50, but all 3 flat and interleaved. Composite the same. Price under the June high after the August dip and recovery.

That's a range, not a trend. Amber.

Two half-size slots, continuation entries only. The constraint does most of the work below.

  1. 5 names, 2 different setups

Twenty-five names on the weekend screen. Five survived structure.

Four are pullbacks. One is a coil. They are not the same trade, and grading them the same way is how you talk yourself into a bad entry.

  1. The distinction

Pullback = stock that already trended, then paused into a rising average. Buying continuation from a known direction.

Coil =compression at the highs w/ no pause to buy into. Buying the range break.

Different entry, stop, & invalidation. Review then pick level.

  1. $SGMT - pullback

Stage-2: base through June, thrust 7→11.5 in August, three weeks of tight digestion on the rising 10-day.

Depth ~5% from high — dead centre of the band. MAs stacked and rising, price surfing.

The shape I want. The stop is the problem, not the chart.

  1. $SGMT - the stop

Formula stop off the pullback low came out at roughly a full day's range.

The chart offered something tighter — under the last higher low.

Same name, same session, two very different risk units. Formula is screening convenience; Structure is the invalidation.

  1. $STLN - pullback, second best

Steady climb from 5 since July, gap in early August, and it's been riding the 20-day since. Higher lows intact, ~9% from high.

Slightly deeper than SGMT and the recent bars are wider — less coiled, more drift. Good, not clean.

  1. $TGTX - pullback

Textbook pullback resting right on the 50-day. Only name on the sheet whose stop sits comfortably inside my cap.

Zoom out: it's been ranging 45–60 since June. No trend.

Pullback inside a range is just the middle of a range. Cleanest risk, weakest reason.

  1. $PLSE - pullback

Strongest relative strength on the entire screen. Relentless advance from 20 to 58 since June.

Also ~31% above its 50-day, 11.5% off the high, and it closed down 4.26%.

Depth at the band edge plus that much extension is a different risk profile to the others.

  1. $VHI - the only coil

August thrust from 13.5 to 19, then two weeks compressing sideways at the highs on a flat 10-day.

No pullback into support — the averages caught up to price instead of price coming back to them.

That's a range break, not a continuation entry.

  1. Then the correlation cap eats it

SGMT, STLN and TGTX are all biotech. Ranks one, two and three.

Different tickers, one driver. My cap collapses them to a single slot.

Sector labels are accounting. Correlation is what actually stops you out.

  1. Where that leaves it

Twenty-five names, five structures, four families, one biotech slot and, at most, one non-biotech.

Two slots available. Realistically one gets used.

Most of the work a screen does is subtraction.

  1. Close

The family call is the decision that matters here. Four pullbacks and one coil, and only one of them is a genuine trend continuation with clean structure.

Everything downstream: trigger, stop, invalidation: falls out of that classification.

2 Episodic Pivots, 2 Different Catalysts

Two clean gaps on Friday's screen. Both cleared my 7% threshold on the correct measurement.

One had rocket fuel behind it. One had a signal. Grading the difference is most of the work.

  1. Measurement first

An EP gap is the open against the prior regular-session close. Not the day's percentage change.

Five names on my screen showed double-digit daily moves. Four had gaps under 2% — intraday thrusts wearing an EP costume.

  1. $FEIM - The Fuel

Q1 after the close Thursday. Sales $23.5M against $17.9M expected. EPS $0.41 against $0.15 consensus. Record funded backlog, up 82% year on year. Revenue up 70%.

Opened +32% against the prior close.

That's not a beat. That's the market repricing the company.

  1. $FEIM - The Base

6 months of chop between roughly 55 and 80. Not deep neglect, but no trend either. The gap cleared the entire range on roughly eight times average volume.

One caveat: short interest was 11% of float going in. Some of that thrust is covering, not conviction.

  1. $ATEC - A different animal

No earnings. The CEO bought 115,000 shares on the open market for about $1.01m at an average of $8.81, and the filing hit Friday.

Opened +8%. Closed up over 20%.

  1. $ATEC - Grade the catalyst, not the reaction

An insider buy is a signal, not a change in the business. Nothing was different about the company on Friday than on Thursday.

$FEIM: 70% revenue growth. $ATEC: one executive's conviction.

Same gate cleared, opposite quality.

  1. The reaction size is not evidence

$ATEC daily move was 2/3 of $FEIM's. If you rank on % change you'd call them comparable.

Rank on what caused the move & they aren't in the same category.

Gap tells you the market reacted. It doesn't tell the reaction has anything under it.

  1. Context matters too

$ATEC is down roughly 38% over twelve months and sits well below its 52-week high of $23.29. The buy came near multi-year lows.

A bounce off a downtrend low is not a stage-2 base. The EP framework wants sideways neglect, not damage.

  1. Where each lands

$FEIM: a genuine EP with real fuel, already extended by the time it was grade-able.

$ATEC: a gap that passes on measurement and fails on substance.

Both go in the library. The second one is the more useful card.

  1. The rule underneath

A threshold tells you a name qualifies for assessment. It doesn't tell you the assessment came out well.

Most of the discipline is in what happens after something passes the filter.

Macro regime for swing trading

Macro (Sept 2026)

US manufacturing just posted its best 12-month improvement since 2021.

Consumer sentiment sits at 51.7, below the distressed line.

Credit spreads are widening at every rating tier.
All three are true right now.

Here's what that combination actually means.

  1. Where we are

First, the phase.

ISM at 55.6 and rising = Late Expansion.

Historically that means P/Es rising but moderating, earnings accelerating hard, and good returns.

It also means we're closer to the top than the bottom.

ISM peaks around 60.

~4 points of runway left.

  1. The manufacturing print

ISM Manufacturing: 55.6

+1.6 MoM
+6.6 YoY

That YoY number is the story. Strongest 12-month improvement since the 2020-21 rebound.

New Orders 56.7. Production 58.5. Employment 52.8 — the lagging component finally turned.

This is a real expansion.

  1. The bullish detail nobody mentions

Customer Inventories at 40.7.

That's very low. Customers are destocked.

Low inventories = future orders. Combine with Supplier Deliveries at 58.9 (slowing = demand > supply) and
Backlog at 55.0.

There's a restocking impulse coming.

  1. Now the problem

Services NMI: 54.1. Expanding.
But look at the internals.

Business Activity 59.1 ✅
New Orders 57.2 ✅
Employment 47.4 ❌
Services is 80% of the economy, and its employment component is contracting.

That's not a footnote.

  1. Contradiction one

Businesses say expansion. The consumer says something else.

UMich headline: 51.7 (−3.5)
Expectations: 51.5 (−3.9)

Below 55 is the distressed zone. Expectations is the leading component and it's falling fastest.

Consumer confidence leads S&P earnings.

  1. But

Here's what stops me being bearish on the consumer.

Stress shows up in order: credit cards, consumer loans, mortgages, unemployment.

Credit card delinquency: 2.92% and improving
Consumer loans: 1.48% stable
Mortgages: 1.89% stable

The first domino hasn't fallen.

  1. Contradiction two

ISM Prices Paid: 71.1
Services Prices: 70.3
CPI MoM: −0.42% (tail-event low)
PPI: −1.26%

Companies are paying sharply more and can't raise prices.

That's not an inflation signal. It's a margin compression signal.

Very different trade.

  1. Straight from the source

This isn't theory. ISM commentary:
Electrical Equipment: 5-25% price increases on PCB assembly, 15-45% on bare boards.
"This isn't sustainable."
Fabricated Metal: considering foreign steel because "domestic mills are getting greedy."
Real cost pressure.

  1. Contradiction three

While the ISM accelerates, credit is repricing risk higher.

AA: 539bps (was 503)
BBB: 571bps (was 542)
CCC: 1,493bps (was 1,376)

All widening over 3 months.

Note BBB−AA is only 32bps. IG is complacent. CCC is where the stress actually is.

  1. The rates picture

10s-2s: +0.40%. Normal, but flattening — was 61bps a year ago.

Meanwhile:
Fed funds 3.63%, flat over 3m
2Y 4.40% (+0.31)
10Y 4.79% (+0.30)

The Fed is on hold while market rates rise.

The tightening impulse isn't coming from the Fed.

  1. Why 18 months matters

Trahan's cascade: rates lead leading indicators by ~18 months. LEIs lead coincident by ~6. Coincident lead lagging by ~9.

Rates rose over the last quarter.

Do the arithmetic and the ISM headwind arrives around Q2 2027 — not now.

  1. The forecast

Overlay Fed funds inverted and shifted forward 18 months against the ISM.

The implied line plateaus through late 2026, then eases into 2027-28.

Translation: the next 6-12 months still carry the tailwind. The deceleration is a 2027 story.

Unless rates fall first.

  1. The tape disagrees

Here's the part that should give any bull pause.
6-month SMID volume flow:

Utilities +29%
Info Tech +13%
Real Estate +5%
—
Consumer Disc −30%
Materials −38%
Financials −63%

Money is leaving every cyclical group. Defensive rotation.

  1. Where the strength actually is

ISM industry rankings, August:

Primary Metals +15 (13 straight positive months)
Electrical Equipment +14
Misc Manufacturing +13
Textile Mills +12

Only contracting industry: Chemical Products.

The strength is narrow and it's upstream.

  1. The narrow tailwind

Specific comment Machinery:

AI infrastructure buildout "nearing real activation."

Data centre products at full ramp. Semis, power, networking, photonics"booming."

Defence at all-time high.

Then: "medical, industrial & consumer markedly lower.

  1. What I’m watching

  2. ISM New Orders (56.7) — 2 down months = I go neutral

  3. CCC spread (1,493) — through 1,600 is risk-off

  4. Next CPI print — determines if the Fed can cut
Bullish triggers need the Fed to act.

Bearish triggers need nothing to happen.
That's the asymmetry.

Regime & Watchlist Journaling

Posting my journaling to encourage debate and reinforcement of concepts. No calls just frameworks and setups. X account (Rorschach_MST)

Regime: AMBER (08/09/2026)

QQQ above the 10/20/50 - but all three are flat and tangled, price is still under June high.

That's a range, not a Trend.

Range = half size positions, maximum two positions, confirmed entries only.

  1. NESR

Steady uptrend with biggest volume bar of year in August. Four weeks of contraction, higher lows, volume drying up.

A* not for being the strongest momentum on the watchlist, but having the shortest distance back to support if breakout fails.

  1. OMER

Best relative strength in the watchlist, strongest momentum. Tightest adherence to the 10-day of any candidate.

But sits 40% above the 50-day. Running from a legitimate base so its a valid candidate, just with little support if it fails.

  1. LB

Good setup but wrong day as price is under the 10 day, lower high off the top, entry sits more that a full day's range away.

The quiet killer: if it takes multiple sessions to reach your setup entry, you haven't graded the right setup.

  1. OKTA

The cleanest setup of my screen. Big gap, held strong, tightened above it, higher lows.

I post the framework. Not the calls.
Nothing here is advice, journal only.
