Pregnancy Disability Application Timeline Question

Okay, so I am 36 weeks pregnant with my first and am going to apply for SDI. My last day of work was 8/14. My question is, when do I apply?

Flame me if you want, but I sought out a maternity leave consultant to help me navigate things and she said due to the 7 day waiting period, the earliest I could apply for leave would be 9 days after the start of my leave. This is consistent with what pops up when I google it too, but I’m seeing a lot of people here say to apply right away. I am not receiving any PTO or wage replacement until SDI comes through, so I’m very nervous and want to minimize my unpaid and processing time as much as possible.

Poor Sleep and Fasting Numbers…

Hello friends! As I’ve gotten further along in my pregnancy (currently 32 weeks) my sleep has gone downhill. I wake up throughout the night and struggle to fall back asleep. Normally I take my fasting sugar reading around 5:30AM, but now that I’m also waking at 12, 3, and 4, I’m not sure when to take it to avoid the dawn effect.

If you’re struggling with sleep too, what seems to be working for you?

Fasting Sugar was LOW

Well, for the first time in my 13-ish weeks of testing, my blood sugar was low (49!) and I am freaking out. I’m on insulin, my bed time snack was normal, no changes except I had a bit of insomnia and didn’t fall asleep for a couple hours after eating and injection. I don’t know how long it was so low or how dangerous one low is for baby. I just drank some juice and will retest in 15 minutes. Anyone have any reassurance?

FTM here, looking for reassurance more than advice.

So…the hormones are hitting me hard today. I had an OB appointment with a Dr. who isn’t my OB because mine was on vacation. I’m 21+2 today and everyone (doctors, family, friends) are starting to asking if I’m feeling movement yet. I’ve been saying no- I’ve had a few weird feelings that I can’t say for certain were baby, but for the most part I haven’t felt much of anything besides my own pulse. Today at the appointment, the Dr. used a Doppler and went “Oh my gosh! Did you feel that?” And when I said no she was shocked. She said the Doppler bounced in her grip it was such a strong movement. Then she put her hands on my lower abdomen and said she felt another touch, this one lighter. I, again, felt nothing. She said I was likely a “low perceiver of movement” and this means I won’t feel my baby move or kick until later, when he’s a whole lot bigger. I cried when I got home because I’ve been trying to feel for my baby for weeks and I don’t feel anything. I was so afraid that being a mom with a high BMI meant I wouldn’t feel him, and I feel like that fear is turning out to be true.
