What should I do if 10 mg nortriptyline doesn't work?

So as some of you read in my last thread, I have chronic nausea and OCD and health anxiety. All my blood work comes back clean, stool tests, ultrasound (I have a gallstone but it's been there since 2020, no change in 6 years and my doctor doesnt think it's causing my nausea). I'm on 15 mg cipralex (over 2 years on this medication at varying doses) and 10 mg nortriptyline (since August 2nd).

There's been no real significant change in my nausea since starting the nortriptyline. I told my psychiatrist that if a medication doesnt work, I want to change it. I wasted enough time being only on cipralex and I was suffering needlessly. We're only still on cipralex cause we're trying the combo with nortriptyline.

I'm seeing the psychiatrist on Wednesday and we'll likely go up to 20 mg nortriptyline. He said before it's likely the 10 mg is too low. I'm trying to figure out what to do if that doesnt work. I suggested mirtazapine in the past but hes very against it. he said it's a 'useless sedating drug' which makes me not really trust his judgement since it clearly works for many people and is used to treat nausea. Anyway, my family doctor said he'd prescribe it if my psychiatrist doesnt want to.

Do any of you have experience with these meds? Is 10 mg nortriptyline likely too low to have an impact?

Is it also hard for you to describe your functional nausea to people?

So I've had chronic nausea for years now. On and off, but it's been worse the past few years. I also have OCD and health anxiety, and the nausea is just worse given I also suffer from those conditions. I'm on Cipralex 15 mg and nortriptyline 10 mg (nortriptyline was started August 2nd, no real change yet my psychiatrist will likely increase).

Anyway, I find it hard to describe my nausea. It's not felt in my stomach. I wake up with it and it's just a feeling of overall sickness, malaise, discomfort in a general kinda way. Do you guys have the same experience? It's hard to put into words. I have it most mornings and sometimes it goes away fast and other times it lingers and goes up and down all day.

I've gotten all kinds of blood tests, ultrasounds, stool tests. everything came back clean. I do have a gallstone but my doctor doesn't think it's the cause of the nausea.

what does the nausea feel like for you guys? also, I may switch over to mirtazapine if the 20 mg nortriptyline still does nothing.

Chronic functional nausea - which meds worked better for you?

So I have OCD and health anxiety and one of the worst things I've been dealing with is chronic nausea. It's pretty much daily and especially every morning to varying degrees. A few months ago I'd have some mornings without it but lately its every morning. It doesn't always persist all day. I'm usually good in the late afternoon and evenings, but not always.

Anyway, I had blood tests done and everything was fine. My doctor thinks it's functional nausea. My psychiatrist prescribed 10 mg nortriptyline and it's my 6th day on it, so I know it's still early to feel benefits. I've also been on cipralex for over 2 years (tried different doses, up to 30 mg but always had nausea, now I'm on 10 mg for the last few months).

I was thinking about mirtazapine. My psychiatrist is against it cause he said it's too sedating, but my family doctor offered to prescribe it if the nortriptyline doesn't work. Have any of you had any luck with either medication?

thanks!

Fit check

I have a pair of dark brown Arizonas but wanted a pair of oiled leather habanas. I know they look similar but leather is nicer and I like brown….no point on buying different colors I won’t wear. Anyway, size 45 is what I wear in birks, but the person at the store said I’m between sizes and that 44 could work too. Here’s 45. Ignore my ugly toes

Do these olukais fit well?

So it’s my first time trying olukais and I went for the dark brown tuahines. Can’t tell if these are too small? They’re size 12 like I wear in every other shoe and sandal

Anyone else deal with chronic nausea from anxiety?

Hey everyone,

So for the last few years, I've been dealing with nausea that comes and goes and its really taking a toll on my life. Lately I've been waking up with it almost every morning. I don't even know if its nausea. I don't know if its in my stomach, its moreso a general feeling of sickness. I never throw up. Some days it gets better when I get up, other times lingers and goes up and down throughout the day.

I've gotten my blood tests done, did stool tests, even got my heart checked at the heart clinic in my area, everything is normal. My doctor doesn't want to do any more tests for 3 years, he clearly thinks he's enabling my health anxiety.

I do have OCD, health anxiety and general panic disorder. I'm on 10 mg cipralex which doesn't help enough. I've tried higher doses (up to 30 mg) but had nausea at every dose. My psychiatrist suggested nortriptyline. My main symptoms now are gut issues like nausea, gas, frequent bowel movements (which are 90-95% solid), overall gut discomfort. He said the nortriptyline is good for gut brain axis issues like mine. The problem is when I get the nausea or whatever the sickness feeling is, my brain treats it like a life threatening emergency, and I panic and that just amplifies it and makes it linger.

Have any of you had these symptoms? what did you do to get better? My diet also isnt great. I usually eat cereal and milk and yogurt when I wake up at like 9 AM. then I'll eat at like 2 PM eggs and bagel. then in the evening dinner at 8-8:30 PM. theres more but I'll start with this.

any help is appreciated.

EDIT: also, just to give more info, I was on Zoloft from like 2017-2024. it worked initially but in the later years I was having gut issues, although my obsessions were different back then. I started cipralex in 2024 and didnt notice any significant change.

my psychiatrist wants to add 10 mg nortriptyline to the 10 mg of cipralex. I'm hesitant cause nortriptyline is an older drug, but if I have to do it to get better, I'll do it. I also started Align probiotic about 4 weeks ago. only thing it improved is my gut motility...went from 3-4 bowel movements a day to usually 1-2 (although sometimes 3). everything else is the same.

Just noticed this on a new pair of Bostons

So I just bought a new pair of Bostons and have already worn them outside a few times. Last night I noticed this on the side of one of them…like a small cluster of cork that got glued on top of the base cork or something. I know this is purely cosmetic but my ocd is making it annoy me lol.

Is there anything I can do? Or just leave it and consider it a birthmark for my new pair of Bostons?
