Why didn't Mrs Bennet help the girls to be more accomplished?

Mrs Bennet is often interpreted as being solely focussed on helping her girls make advantageous marriages so why didn't she make it so they were more accomplished? Surely if the opportunity of a suitor was in the area and the girls had more going for them, in terms of female skills shall we say, wouldn't they have had more of a chance?

Not getting the girls a governess just seems odd. Relying solely on the girls looks seems naive and foolish. What do you think keen readers?

Positive test and rollercoaster of emotions

We have a very kind and lovely nearly 4 year old and we have been trying for a baby for many months. We always hoped for two and our son is good with little ones. Just now I thought I'd rule out another month and there they were two lines. My husband is poorly in bed and I think I've experienced all the emotions at once.

It is such early days that I don't want to tell family and friends and get their hopes up or let them down.

Please any parents still awake, kind strangers send me some encouraging words.

Collection policies that encourage inclusion and variety for students

Hello Librarians and library users,

Wherever in the world you reside I'm sure you are worried, perhaps even angry, at some libraries being made to remove certain books and genres because of government imposed legislations.

I've not long been a secondary school (age 11-18 year olds) librarian and my library has no collection policy so I have been tasked with writing one. I want to make sure it is a policy that encourages inclusivity, diversity and variety for the students for years to come. I want to allow our students access to LGBTQIA+ literature, modern and classic works. Please share links or extracts of inclusive collection policies! Thank you in advance.

Allowing yourself to rest advice

It's a family trait from my parents, not resting, always something we could or should be doing. A guilt almost that rest or breaks should be short or have purpose. How do I train myself into allowing myself as working parent of preschooler to rest? There is always something to be done looking after little one and playing, washing, dishes, life admin etc. My partner and I share tasks I just find hard to not think about chores or feel need to do them. Any tips or encouraging comments would be great.
