What “yes” became too expensive for you?
Every yes costs something: time, energy, attention, or another opportunity.
The question is whether it’s worth the price.
What are you much more careful about saying yes to now?
Every yes costs something: time, energy, attention, or another opportunity.
The question is whether it’s worth the price.
What are you much more careful about saying yes to now?
I’ve been experimenting with three things:
what keeps me balanced,
what I genuinely value,
and a few principles for how I want to act.
I’ve noticed that having those clear in the background changes how I look at decisions.
Curious what other people rely on.
I’ve found that having a few clear values and principles in the back of my mind makes decisions much easier.
It’s almost like an invisible filter for what deserves a yes or a no.
Do you have something similar?
We treat almost every self-improvement problem like a habit problem.
Can’t focus? New routine.
Low energy? Start working out.
Feel behind? New productivity system.
And many of those habits are genuinely useful. For someone.
Waking up at 5am might work great for someone who does their best work early.
A strict daily routine might help someone who thrives on structure.
Journaling every morning might be perfect for someone who needs time to think before the day starts.
None of those habits are bad. They just make sense for different people, different priorities, and different lives.
A good habit isn’t necessarily the right habit for you.
A habit can make perfect sense on paper and still be hard to maintain if it doesn’t fit the life you’re living or the life you want to build.
The habits that last may have something underneath them.
They reinforce what keeps you balanced.
They support something you genuinely value.
They fit your priorities instead of competing with them.
That might explain why someone can be incredibly disciplined in one area of life and inconsistent in another.
What made the habits that actually stuck for you different from the ones you eventually dropped?
