Speech contest. Original speech is 4:40. Is 20 seconds too short going to get penalized?

I’m helping a very serious young student who at 14 has written a very good speech but it comes in at 4:30-4:40 minutes. the limit is 5 minutes and I can’t find any guidance on a speech being too short. TIA.

Not a bad haul on a rainy day

Just picked tomatoes, sweet corn, zucchini, cucumber and beans to go with the spuds and garlic. herbs are rosemary sage basil thyme and coriander.

time to go make some salads.

my peppers have not thrived and are merely bug food.

Big spuds

dug up the kitaakari spuds today and there are some whoppers. made good chips but not as delicious as the danshaku we dug last week. these are better suited to other uses.

Why is NZ still kissing the USA’s arse?

Stuff article New US tariffs on NZ products

when your partner is abusing you, cut ties and move on. that Cook Strait metals deal and other military alliances and commitments should be put on hold and the whole relationship revisited.

Japan and Europe can supply arms and the metals can be sold to the highest bidder.

if the US ever starts acting like a reliable ally again maybe things can be restored but at the moment it‘s an untenable situation.

Shame our current leadership lacks the courage or smarts of a David Lange, who I wasn’t that fond of, but he was no walkover.

Wild compost heap.

Compost heap kinda took off.

last year we had too many pumpkins and some rotted. They went to the compost heap to get turned when the weather warmed up. last October au threw the tomato vines on as well

well the pumpkin and tomato seeds did their thing and now we have very genki pumpkin and tomato plants competing for sun and space. im not going to do much as we have a pumpkin patch and plenty of other tomatoes already.

Looking for potato storing tips.

digging up the spuds as soon as the ground dries out a bit. we’ll probably have near 120kgs to store. varieties are kita-Akari and danshaku.

especially looking for bags that worked well in storing them. TIA.

Chutney made

made a small batch of ume and plum chutney preserved a jar, froze an ice cube tray full and have a small jar for immediate use. looking forward to smash burgers on Sunday after I bake some more hamburger buns. Still waiting on my tomatoes to ripen. digging the spuds this weekend.

Weird stuff you’ve seen here.

Back in the early 90s I was going through immigration at Narita and I got talking to an Aussie bloke about something. There was an Asian man and woman talking to the immigration officer when another guy crawls on his hands and knees like a baby through the immigration gate.
No one in a uniform was looking that way, we look at each other and snitch on the guy.

always wondered if that was a common way of illegally entering Japan.

the ojisan with over 10 phones hooked up to his bicycle handlebars during peak Pokémon Go was weird but understandable

worse was another guy (40ish) using a safety razor at a sento shaving the hair around his bum hole In full view of at least 20 other men who were all agape in shock.

anyone else do that? Asking for a friend
