Advice needed from parents of autistic teen
My (30s) new friend (40s) has a teen daughter that she’s said she’s nervous and embarrassed for me to meet because the daughter’s behavior in the recent year(s) has been very sour and hard to deal with…
Is there any way I can reassure my friend that it will be okay? For example, we’ve talked about me coming to their home to hang out and the 3 of us do a spa day, but my friend has cancelled the plan more than once. She finally mentioned then that she was nervous.
Should I be nervous myself? Lol. I’m not trying to come across ignorant, but am I missing something or is this just my friend’s anxieties? What should I expect when meeting her daughter? How can I prepare or accommodate her autism, so to speak? I’m very easy going and am a girl’s girl myself, so I figured it might be a piece of cake, but now I’m curious why she’s so worried.
Also, I’m not the type to go empty handed when/if I do get to meet her, so any small, inexpensive ideas to gift a teen girl (autism related or not) would be appreciated.
TIA
