New to me - 2023 814ce

Hi friends,

Now I get it. I now understand and feel what is a Taylor guitar.

I've been playing for the better part of 2 decades, having worked as a session and touring musician, and over the last 6 months I have been searching for an acoustic guitar. I've had my trusty Fender GD47SCE since the early 2000s, Fender halo acoustic guitar designed and built by Guild.

Coming back to my search, I was fixated on a used Martin 00028, but these are still close to 3000-3500 with 10-15 year old range.

And I've came across a used 2023 Taylor 814ce, that just spoke to me. Picked it up for 2600 and I've played it on the very first night for an audience of 400 people.

Its confortable, stable, dependable, easy to play and keeps in tune, also, it has such wide range of tones across the spectrum of frequencies of an acoustic guitar. The top just vibrates and projects sound. It moves air. If I am speaking close to it, as in, the guitar on my lap, it resonates and amplifies my voice.

I've found my forever home., studio and stage guitar. It just makes me feel creative everytime I pick it up.

Used OM-28 : top crack analysis

Hi friends,

I'm looking into this used 2011 OM-28 as my first Martin, but those parallel varnish cracks seem strange . I'm reaching out to you for a quick analysis if these cracks are just cosmetic or the beginning, / sign that there might be issues with the top.

Thank you!

Spring reverb - Carl Martin or VanAmps

Friends,

I'm looking for a spring reverb unit to sit on my pedal board and be placed at the end of my chain. The chain is connected directly to the input of the amplifier.

All my gear is bought used and within walking or public transport distance, and near me, there are 2 units available

A Carl Martin Headroom and a Vanamps reverbmate solemate

While the Carl Martin is a modern reverb with loads of reviews including "That pedal show", against its modern counterparts the ReverbMate Solemate was discontinued in 2015.

I'm looking for a reverb that sits like a layer, and only when you turn it off, you realize you are missing it. The vanamps seems to be a amplifier like implementation and needs AC 12v, and 1600mah of power. So, it's that special pedal on the board.

The vanamps is 150 euros, the Carl Martin 100.

Fender vibroverb 64 César Diaz mods

Friends,

A Fender vibroverb 64 reissue from, 2003 just appeared locally. It's in mint state, a rare found, confirmed by a quick email to Fender where roughly 500 where done, by Fender custom shop

Its Handwired, P2P, and carries a series of mods that give it cascading overdrive capabilities, also a solid state to valve rectifier switch. European transformers, and a 15 inch speaker.

In my stack I've got a Lazy J 35 ( 1 of 1), a Matchless DC-30, a Marshall bluesbreaker 90s UK reissue, and a Fuchs overdrive supreme 50. These are used in the studio, stage and home. These are used 330 days of the year.

I'm missing that Fender blackface voice, ( altough the fuchs umble can get really close to it!). The fuchs also does a singing sustain cascading overdrive.

Is this a case of running there, or are there better expressions of a blackface Fender? I am avoiding overlapping amplifiers.

Sigma somr 45

Hi reedit friends,

For the last better part of two decades, I have used a Fender GD 47 SCE ( Fenders halo guitar, grand dreadnought, single cut away, from the mid 2000s, designed by Guild).

The acoustic/electric cutaway GD-47SCE Dreadnought guitar is comprised of a solid, AA grade spruce top and solid rosewood back with natural finish and tortoise shell binding. An exclusive Fender/Fishman Pickup System with Acceleromter and blend control is added to the GD-47SCE, which also features Fender's special design low-mass bridge design and Grover tuning machines. Abalone position markers complete this guitar's appointments. US MSRP is $964.99.

Unfortunately this guitar is 4000 km away, and I find myself searching for a acoustic guitar to use at home, studio and stage.

This SIGMA SOMR 45 appeared locally, and I keep returning to the listing. There is just something about it.

It has Martin liquid metal pins, Martin Bronze strings, and a LR bags pickup system. Seller is asking 900 euros.

Body Size: 000-14 Fret Construction: Dovetail Neck Joint Top: Solid Sitka Spruce Back & Sides: Solid Indian Rosewood Neck: Mahogany, Low Profile Nut & Saddle: Bone Fingerboard & Bridge: Ebony Scale Length: 25.4” (645 mm) Neck width at nut: 1-3/4” (44,5 mm) Truss Rod: Two way Truss Rod Tuning Machines: Grover Gold Open-Gear w/ Butterbean Knobs Finish: Polished Gloss w/ Aging Toner Softshell Case: SSC-OM included Strings: D´Addario EXP16 List price: $ 1.650,00

Should I run there, or look elsewhere, such as a used eastman, or furch ?

Thank you!

Shur Standard Korina & Fender Ultra

Hi reedit friends

Back in 2005 I've bought a Fender Standard Stratocaster USA made, maple, with SSS configuration that has been my workhorse for the last two decades.

Back in 2020, I've bought a Fender Stratocaster Ultra, maple with noiseless SSS pickups that's just stellar.

Close to me, a listing of a Shur Korina appeared. It's a standard, with Korina body, Korina neck and Pau Ferro fretboard. It has 2 pick guards with SSV pickups in HSH and SSH configuration.

The sticker on the guitar is close to 6000 euros, and the seller is asking for 60% of the original price.

I've opted to reach out to the PRS community, as you have made a decision to opt for a boutique - custom guitar instead of a off-the-shelf model

I keep finding myself going back to the Shur listing.

What should one expect when comparing the off-The-shelf Fender Ultra to the Shur classic ?
