IIT Kanpur branch choice: Materials, BS Physics, BS Chemistry, Earth Sciences, BSBE. Need advice.

Hi everyone,

I'm likely to get the following branches at IIT Kanpur:

  • Materials Science & Engineering
  • BS Physics
  • BS Chemistry
  • Earth Sciences
  • Biological Sciences & Bioengineering (BSBE)

I'm trying to decide between them and would really appreciate insights from current IITK students, alumni, or anyone familiar with these departments.

My priorities are good placement opportunities, career flexibility, internship opportunities, and the ability to explore fields like software, analytics, consulting, finance, or higher studies later on.

I don't have a very strong preference for any particular core field right now, so keeping options open is important factor to me.

How are these branches perceived at IIT Kanpur? How do placements and internships compare? Are students from these branches generally eligible for software, analytics, consulting, and finance roles, or do branch restrictions become an issue?
