I am an incoming fresher, are the swimming classes available all year round or only during summer vacations?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to decide between the following offers:

• BITS Hyderabad – M.E. VLSI Design & Microelectronics
• IIT Madras – M.Tech Control & Optimization
• IIT BHU – M.Tech DISE (Department of Electrical Engineering)

My primary goal is to get a good placement after my master's.
I have a few questions:

1. Which of these programs would provide the best placement opportunities overall?
2. Is the IIT Madras tag enough to outweigh the branch difference, or is a specialized VLSI program at BITS Hyderabad a better choice?
3. How are the placement opportunities for IIT BHU DISE compared to the other two?

My younger sister (17F) is joining IIT Madras for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, and we're looking for a laptop in the ₹75–85k budget.

Her requirements:

- RTX 3050/4050 (for CAD, SolidWorks, etc.)

- i5/Ryzen 5 minimum (i7/Ryzen 7 preferred)

- 16 GB RAM

- 512 GB SSD (or 1 TB if possible)

Our biggest concern is battery life. Gaming laptops like the Lenovo LOQ, ASUS TUF A15, and Acer Nitro seem to last only 2–4 hours, and she doesn't want to carry a bulky charger around campus if lecture halls don't have reliable plug points. On the other hand, we're worried that thin-and-light laptops like the ASUS Vivobook may struggle with heavier CAD workloads.

Current options:

- Lenovo LOQ (i5-12450HX + RTX 3050)

- ASUS TUF A15 (Ryzen 7 + RTX 3050)

- ASUS Gaming V16 (Core 7 240H + RTX 4050)

TL;DR: Looking for the best laptop under ₹80–85k for an IIT Madras Mechanical Engineering student. Priorities are good CAD performance, decent battery life, portability, and long-term reliability. Which laptop would you recommend?

Freshie here joining this year, im interested to know about the finance club and entrepreneurship club can anyone give an overview about them please? Also do companies prefer certain students just because they are a part of a certain club?

Will the guards trouble you? When we were kids people would just let us in and we could go for a saturday morning run. They would only stop vehicles.

I don't have any alumni ID or anything, just an id from another academic institution.

Hi, i recently got selected for the Msc DSAI course at IITM. I did my UG in a tier 2 college and i did Bsc, not engineering. I’m pretty nervous about how difficult it is to survive in IIT as a student with a Science background and not an Engineering background. Plus i have more theoretical knowledge and have some experience building AI models and projects. I also heard that the coursework and academia would be very hectic. Since i’m currently a Bsc graduate, my knowledge span is limited, but i’m willing to grind to reach the level of an engineering student who got selected for this course. On a scale of 0-10, how much can i survive this course. Any tips and advice? Anything i should study beforehand joining this course? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

So I speaking to a prof associated with this online BS course and seems like they are already thinking of hosting this for the next year.
I have severe concerns with:

1. Lack of strict communication and guidelines for these folks to follow.

2. Strict enforcement of rules and basic etiquettes. ( don’t want folks to shit doing yoga poses, I wonder why the toilet gets super dirty.)

3. Apparently helplines for Sexual Harassment aren’t helping. There is no immediate resolution.

Is there a way our student council can raise these things.

I'll be joining IIT Madras for my M.Tech program this year, and I was hoping to connect with others who are joining as well.

It would be great to get to know each other before the semester starts, discuss hostel allotment, registration, course selection, travel plans, and anything else related to joining IITM.

So I got kicked out of my comp team and my club. My cgpa tanked. I got dumped. No internships. Institute took away my scholarship saying “funds not available”. Prof doesn’t like my work in projects. Mom and dad are separated.
Feel like the lowest lows in my life. Don’t know what I’m doing with my life. I have one year to figure out shit.
Is college supposed to be this shitty or am I over reacting?

Currently not placement oriented and want to pursue something I like (not sure what i like currently), also want to think about startups

   5.electronics + extension
   6.toiletries

Is this it or something more is needed, i heard some people buy table fans and also mattress for bed but idk

I met a guy on the Patna airport after tech meet 14.0 and he is mostly from IIT madras. He was ok-ish tall, brown skinned, curly hair, could be into sports/fitness and said "we are never going to meet again, so would u like to walk for some time"

It was the cutest thing I have ever heard lol but idek his name and now im bored as shit and so I wanna know who he was
