Cheers, not boos: PM's motorcade arriving at GC

PM's motorcade arriving at GC. Cheering in the background and I didn't hear any boos in this clip. Thanks for all the comments and the discussion on my earlier post, even the critical ones. Like I said, online outrage is easy, showing up is the hard part. Next time, show up instead of just posting. 😂

To the keyboard warriors crying

To all the cowards asking registered attendees to boo the PM: keep crying on Reddit. If you have the guts, show up and make your own voice heard instead of outsourcing your outrage.

To those who got registered, maybe show the PM just how much we appreciate him. 🇮🇳

And to the offended keyboard warriors, go ahead and downvote. Prove my point. 😂

To the Mod Who Said Students Shouldn’t Be Stingy With Their Money

Where is that asshole mod who said, not to be stingy because after 4 years we’ll have earned an internship stipend or gotten a placement, so the money won’t matter. Then use your intern stipend to buy back those tickets from the freshies who were pressured into buying them. If the money doesn’t matter that much, you can afford to put your own money where your mouth is.

Saarang Megathread When? And What Happened to T5E?

The mods said a megathread on Saarang would be created and until then posts criticising Saarang would be locked/removed. But this isn’t some Online BS vs Btech fight. We are questioning specific practices surrounding Saarang. How is that automatically “hate”?

The biggest issue is the ₹2k–₹2.5k iKollege spending narrative. Especially the “spend it or it’ll go to waste anyway” argument that freshies hear every year. Many students end up buying tickets because of this FOMO/peer pressure.

So when is the promised megathread coming? After the Saarang teams have finished their sales?

Also, what happened to The Fifth Estate (T5E)? There used to be a time when T5E actually investigated campus issues and insti junta looked forward to those articles. The website hasn’t been updated in years and I can’t even find the current editorial team to approach them.

Can someone please take this to the current T5E editors? I’d genuinely like them to investigate:

* How common is this iKollege-funded fest-ticket system across IITs?
* How many of the insti junta purchase Saarang tickets through iKollege every year? And what of these sales comes from freshies?
* What steps does admin take to ensure freshies know these payments are optional?

If needed, T5E could file an RTI on whatever questions require official data. But honestly, I doubt an RTI should even be necessary for most of this, as they just need to get off their asses and do the work they signed up to do.

And if possible, conduct a student survey on how many people actually wanted this option of buying through ikollege versus how many bought tickets because they were told their money would otherwise be “wasted.”

This isn’t about hating Saarang. It’s about transparency.

If someone knows the current T5E editors, please take this to them.

Fuck insti.

Does anyone know how to contact the Ombudsman? The official website doesn’t even seem to work. Is the Ombudsman actually meant to help students or is it just another institution that exists only on paper?

Fuck insti.

The biggest problem with insti isn’t the decisions it makes, it’s that students often aren’t even given a chance to present their side before those decisions are made. After my last post several people DM’d me saying they had gone through the same thing. Different cases and same feeling nobody listens.

The admin keeps talking about our welfare while the director seems far more focused on public image and external optics than on addressing students. Its funny how Diro is more focused on working with the current government rather focusing on working for insti and its students.

And what about student secretaries? If they can’t effectively represent students or raise concerns without fear then what exactly is their role?
I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m asking for basic due process and the right to be heard.

I just hope the student secretaries see this and remember what they were elected for. And I genuinely hope this reaches the administration too.

IIT Guwahati -- Murder by Administration

So -- From all the close sources I have gathered some kind enough information in the dark of recent horrendous event that has happened in the institute----

Ritesh (Late), 3rd Year CSE, Competitive Programming Head Codding Club, Codeforces Candidate Master was apparently helping one of his friends in solving the Online Assessment for the company NatWest, he was aware that CCD (placement cell of IIT Guwahati) would be able to track the submissions if done from the different IP address -- So he was sitting in the same building where the assessment was taking place i.e. Core 5. He took his seat on one of the upper floors (5th) while the test was happening on one of the lower floors. He had the remote access of his friends PC. Upon some random frisking of the PCs of the candidates in the OA classrooms --- the guy was caught --- he told about the Lead Student Coordinators the whereabouts and every detail of whats happening in the scene ------ two LSCs (one Btech - one Mtech) along with the professor and chairman of ALL IIT PLACEMENT COMMIETTEE, John jose rushed to upper floor -- found ritesh ------ and there have been some confirmations about them shouting on ritesh ---- How Hell is life will become now on, he wont be allowed to stay in the campus ---- his offer with goldman sachs -quant will be revoked on the CCD's behalf --- he would not ever be able to avail the CCD's services ever --- basically complete debar from ongoing intern season, and from upcoming placement season (that would have happened in his 7th sem). And after all this, it took only 5 minutes for ritesh to end is life by jumping from the same building.

What i see today in the campus, Administration has apparently planted the flowers on the crime scene to hide the bloodstains, what John jose answers to gymkhana is--- "i am not at all answerable to you all", and the reports of him being mentally depressed are being formed --- even in the news outlets as well there is a lot less reach about this incident --- every outlets confirms "a student of iit guwahati found dead -- investigations ongoing" but man, what on earth is found dead, its literally an organised murder, how much this admin can harass an individual so that to make him end his life for ever and ever ------ i was shocked and drenched all along to know that there is no legitimate response from the student body at all! Not even candle march! How incel you all can be! that guy was so bright, and they all killed him! How tolerant you all have become to drink this kind of piss from the admin. We havent lost just another kid --- He lost a minute in our countries future --- have the same reported as suicide due to mental health ----- I have been aware about his family's economical background--- thats not sound at all, they are travelling in train for 2 days to see the face, thats not even recognizable of their dead son--- and by the time they would have reached its already medically proven that he was suffering from mental health -----

John Jose and his associates had no right to shout at or demean anyone. There is a standard procedure for such situations, and humiliation is never acceptable.

There has been many recent incidents (allegedly) regarding the corruption and favoritism in ccd like john jose helping one of his LSCs get a offer, one of the LSCs helping students out in OAs (the cheating incident was even reported to CCD and there was no response from their side, the predatory LSC was also reported to CCD but again no action). One of the incidents that i am completely aware of is a guy.
---The guy from John jose's hometown, A Abraham, Lead Student Coordinator previous years, he was charged with asking the female students the sexual favors in regards for let them cheat in Assessments --- Many of the girls had to come along to have this stopped and have this thing taken action upon, and what actions were taken? He got Placed at Tesla with 50 CTC for electircal role, and he had chemical eng as background, and apparently his name wasnt in shortlist, not even on waitlist! still he walked away with the great placement offer --- his job wasnt threatened --- why shout justice when its selective?

This was an act of extreme harassment that led a student to take his own life. I am shocked by the lack of any significant response from the student body.

The administration appears to be attempting to frame this as an isolated case of depression, which is clearly not the full story. It is now the responsibility of the student body to take this matter into their own hands and uncover the truth. A simple email from the administration dismissing the issue is insufficient. All individuals associated with this incident should be held accountable.

Fuck insti.

Not going to write out my whole case here but after everything I’ve dealt with, my honest take is IIT Madras is not what people think it is. Your voice as a student counts for nothing and the admin does what it wants with zero accountability.

If you’re a ranker deciding between IITM and Bombay/Delhi seriously reconsider. There are better places that don’t treat students like this.
Anyone else been through something similar? Curious if this is a pattern or just me.

Edit : Incase the 3 years streak is broken in any near future please consider it as my final fight against the DOST and CCW

Thank you for all the kind messages and DMs. I’m already in touch with the Wellness Center and doing okay. I genuinely appreciate everyone’s support. ❤️

Bro pulled the ultimate debate card 💀

I was under the impression that insti discourages students from participating in these things.

Am I missing something here? Is this allowed or are there specific guidelines for students about media appearances?

Sexual harassment is serious but social media isn’t the way to deal with it

Sexual harassment on campus is a real and serious issue and I’m not disputing that. But there’s a second problem that doesn’t get talked about enough: for every genuine complaint, there’s also a fake one. Men can be falsely accused and women can be genuinely victimised. In insti both realities exist and public callout threads can’t tell the difference between them.

Here’s why I think social media is the wrong venue, and what to do instead.
Why Reddit doesn’t help

  1. It gives zero mental peace. No resolution, no protection, no closure. Just a thread that gets buried in a week.

  2. It attracts people like me. I’ll admit I play devil’s advocate on these threads and there will always be others who ask uncomfortable questions that can feel like victim-blaming, fair or not.

3.Naming someone publicly without due process cuts both ways. If it turns out to be exaggerated or wrong, the poster can face serious legal consequences of their own like defamation, contempt, or worse if things escalate.

What to actually do if this happens to you

  1. File a CCASH complaint. This is what the mechanism exists for.

  2. Talk to your campus counsellors, FACAD etc this is exactly the kind of situation they’re there for.

  3. Tell a parent or someone you trust in your life, not just online strangers.

  4. If you want to raise awareness, do it after you have shared what happened through the proper channel, not by naming someone in a comment section first.

If you do want to share your experience for awareness, share it usefully
Instead of just naming names, tell people:

What you experienced. (without needing to name anyone)
What you did about it — did you file a complaint, and where.
What the outcome was.
What you’d do differently next time.
What went wrong in the process, if anything like evidence that wasn’t presented carefully enough, timelines missed, etc.
What you wish you’d known before starting the process

That’s the kind of post that actually helps the next person who goes through this and not just a name and a pile of comments.

Is caste/regional politics in insti worse than people admit?

Always thought groupism here was about branch or hostel rivalries normal IITian stuff. But especially with the current graduating batch and their seniors, it’s very caste/region-based, and it’s bad among Gults specifically (yes, I’m one)
Any Gult who’s actually into academics or stuff like CFI ends up sidelined by TAM/Northies/other cliques playing games. The ones doing genuinely useful work get branded “TAM” or “North Indian” and mocked for it.
To incoming Gult freshies please stay away from this POR politics. You get nothing out of it. A senior who graduated a couple of batches before came back to institute during placement season as part of his company’s recruitment team and told me cultural PORs especially are treated like crap, not because people don’t value culture but because the politics in that space are that cheap. Building something real for a club is respected and everything else is just a false sense of accomplishment.
