Accept $23/hr school nursing job or wait for hospital?

Hi everyone! I became registered as an RPN less than a month ago and was recently hired for a school nursing position starting next week. The pay is $23/hr, 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday.

My goal is to work in a hospital. I have a hospital interview scheduled in 3 weeks and I was screened for another hospital position today and may be selected for an interview. Both pay is $37/hr with 12-hour shifts.

I’m grateful to have a job offer as a new grad but I’m wondering if I should start the school position while continuing to interview or hold out for a hospital position. I also had a family vacation planned for the second week of September that I likely wouldn’t be able to take if I start the school job.

Another concern is that I interviewed with the school for full-time but when they called to offer me the job, they said part-time. I’ve asked for an offer letter twice and still haven’t received one, despite already completing my onboarding paperwork and receiving my orientation schedule. So I don’t even have the position, hours, or $23/hr rate confirmed in writing.

Would it be foolish to turn down a guaranteed job for potential hospital opportunities? Or would you take the school job for now and leave if you get a hospital offer?

How long did it take you to find a RPN job as a new Grad?

Hi! I just got registered this week and now I’m on the hunt for a job. I wanted to know from new grads that got registered this year are you currently working? and if so how long did the job hunt take?

Any advice helps!

passed at 90 question with 2 weeks of studying

Hi everyone!

I passed my REx-PN (Canada’s equivalent of the NCLEX-PN) on Monday! My exam shut off at 90 questions, which is the minimum in Ontario.

Honestly… I didn’t think the exam was nearly as bad as I had built it up to be. I did try the PVT and got the good pop up and felt relaxed after. Checked my results at 4am and found out I passed.

I used Archer as my main study resource. I bought the 2-month package with the videos, but I honestly didn’t start studying until 2 weeks before my exam (I procrastinated until I finally booked my test 😅).

In those two weeks I:

  • Completed the entire Archer QBank
  • Took 5 Readiness Assessments (4 Very High, 1 High)
  • Passed 4 CAT exams
  • Used NurseAchieve only for their CAT exams and got 1 Pass-Pass and 1 Slight Pass

I also:

  • Watched a lot of Dr. Sharon’s prioritization videos on YouTube.
  • Listened to Mark K Lecture 12 twice.
  • Listened to parts of Lectures 1, 3, and 11, but never finished those.

As for the exam itself:

  • Lots of prioritization
  • Lots of patient teaching/education
  • Quite a few electrolyte imbalance questions
  • A few developmental milestone questions
  • I had no dosage calculation/ECG questions
  • know your lab values!!

Surprisingly, I didn’t feel like there was a ton of traditional adult health on disease-specific content.

If anyone has any questions about the exam or my study plan, feel free to ask! Happy to help.

Need Advice: Archer Scores vs. REx-PN Readiness

Hi everyone! I’m writing my REx-PN next week and I’m starting to second-guess myself.

So far I’ve gotten:

  • 4 Very High readiness assessments on Archer
  • Passed 4 Archer CAT exams
  • Pass-Pass and Slight Pass on NurseAchieve

What’s throwing me off is that two of my Archer CATs showed only 57%, even though I still passed.

I’ve completed 83% of the Archer QBank, but my overall average is only 59% correct.

Has anyone here gotten multiple consecutive Very High readiness assessments on Archer and still ended up failing the REx-PN? Or if you had similar scores, did you pass?

I’m debating whether I should postpone my exam, so any advice or personal experiences would really help. Thanks!

hello! I have a subscription for uworld because I used it for my last semester in nursing school but I’ve been reading a lot of subs about how great bootcamp is & I’m wondering if bootcamp is mainly geared towards the USA NCLEX or if there are any Canadian people who used bootcamp as their main resource and still passed? Open for thoughts on nurseachieve as well!
