What is this hard residue on the blades and how do I remove it?

I make a smoothie every morning and, on every blender I've had, this solid residue builds up and it seems impossible to remove.

The smoothies consist of bananas, frozen berries, spinach, whey protein powder, and milk.

I admit that I don't scrub the blades after every use – I just rinse with water and let it air dry. I live in the Seattle area, so we don't have hard water.

I would love to know what this is, how to remove it, and how to keep it from happening again.

Edit: It isn't some kind of coating chipping off. The buildup got pretty thick on my previous blender (Magic Bullet), prompting me to get a new one(Ninja). I've tried soaking in Dawn and scrubbing.

I'm 40M, don't have life insurance aside from the one employees at my company are automatically enrolled in, no wife (yet), and don't intend to have children. I live in WA state, so I'm already forced into the WA Cares Fund for LTC, but I think it only pays up to $36,500 if ever needed.

A term (until age 100) life + LTC group plan is available through my employer this week from a company called The Standard. Approval is guaranteed with no heath questions. I can take the plan with me if I leave the company or the state. I heard it does not have inflation protection, but I don't know what that means.

I'm in over my head here and I have to decide by Friday. Any advice is appreciated. If you have specific questions about the plan, I'll do my best to find the answers. Thanks in advance!
