Suggestions needed for diabetic

I stopped making smoothies a few months ago when I got diagnosed with diabetes. Now that summer is here, I regularly don’t feel like eating due to the heat but I’m not supposed to skip meals. I need low carb, dairy free, high fiber suggestions please! Thank goodness I can safely have some fruit, but not high GI fruits like bananas and watermelon.

I’m particularly intrigued by the people who use cauliflower in smoothies but I have no idea what to mix it with.

What's one smoothie ingredient you were skeptical about that ended up becoming a staple?

I feel like everyone has that one ingredient they thought would completely ruin a smoothie... until they actually tried it.

For me, it was spinach. I was convinced it would taste like salad, but now I throw a handful into almost every smoothie and barely notice it's there.

I've also been surprised by things like frozen cauliflower, avocado and kefir. They sound odd at first, but they can completely change the texture without overpowering the flavor.

So what's your unexpected favorite ingredient?

Bonus points if it's something most people would never think to add.

How can I make a smoothie better (for me)

I’ve been trying to improve my diet significantly this summer. I started making smoothies for breakfast and afternoon snack and I’m wondering what I can do to make them healthier.

I normally add:
1 cup of zero auger Greek yogurt
500 ml coconut water (Kirkland brand)
Chia seeds
Frozen mango
And a banana.

I will be adding spinach starting tomorrow, but what else should I watch for/ add or remove?

Can one machine handle smoothies and fruit sorbet?

Last month, I was mostly making smoothies for my kids. They're 7 and 10, and right now they're obsessed with fruit sorbet after trying some at a local farmers market a few weeks ago.

That got me thinking about making more frozen fruit stuff at home, like smoothies, smoothie bowls, and simple fruit sorbet with frozen mangoes, bananas, berries, etc.

But my kitchen is already full of gadgets and crowded. So I'm wondering whether it makes sense to replace my current blender with one machine that can handle most of this.

Anyway, I've been eyeing the canoly 3-in-1 and kuvings auto 10. Has anyone actually tried either of them for sorbet or some smoothie bowls? I'd love to hear what you have and whether it's been worth it.

Added beans to my strawberry smoothie

…and it was amazing 🤩

White navy beans added texture, fiber, and protein to an otherwise simple not-so-filling strawberry smoothie. Get some!

post-run smoothie

1 ripe banana, 1 large beet, a handful of mangos, two tablespoons of local honey, 170g of maple hill plain unsweetened kefir and voila!
side note: i chill all my ninja blending cups so they live in the freezer until ready to use and i refrigerate all my fruits and vegetables, anyone else?

Smoothie Personalization Recommendations

From time to time, I see a lot of posts regarding smoothie recommendations. I started to build a website and hopefully/eventually an app that can recommend a smoothie recipe based on your inputs. The benefit is that the recommendations are not only personalized by your own profile (age, weight, outcomes) but also gives combinations that are better. For example, a lot of people combine bananas and berries. It’s efficient if you had berries with other fruits and not bananas. Another is having a citrus element in spinach which will enhance iron absorption. There’s literally thousands of such combinations that are useful. Would you be interested in using it? Or are you using ChatGPT or similar AI apps for recipes? I can post the basic website to show the idea if anyone is interested. Thanks.

First smoothie - strawberry banana

Finally got around to making my first smoothie. Just went with a simple strawberry banana for the first time - 3 frozen bananas, 1/2lb frozen strawberries, and 2 cups OJ. Definitely made a little too much so froze the leftovers for tm. But very happy with how it turned out and looking forward to trying a lot of other types of smoothies in the near future!

What's the best blender for smoothies? Tired of chunky frozen fruit

I've finally decided to replace my old blender because every smoothie turns into a workout. It struggles with frozen fruit, leaves random chunks of ice, and sometimes even overheats if I make two drinks back to back.

I mostly make fruit smoothies, protein shakes, and occasionally throw in spinach, oats, or peanut butter. I don't really care about making soup or nut butter. I just want something that can make consistently smooth drinks without sounding like it's about to launch into space.

I'm willing to spend a bit more if it means the blender will last for years, but I also don't want to overpay if a mid-range model does the job just as well.

For those of you who make smoothies regularly, which blender has been the best investment? Any models that have held up for years without losing power?

chia seeds in smoothie, dry?

is it safe to put dry chia seeds in a smoothie before blending? today I used chia seeds in my smoothie for the first time and while I soaked them in milk for about 5 minutes. they didn’t expand much and I just added them/blended them in anyways. Will I be okay? do I even need to soak in the future? I know not soaking can cause gut issues.

How do ninja models hold up after a few years ?

I made my first smoothie bowl this morning (delicious), but it cost me my 3 year old blender that i bought for like 40 bucks out of amazon. Buy it nice or buy it twice I guess. There's a second-hand ninja foodi (CB350EU) in my area for like 60% of retail price. The model is from 2022 and was used roughly once a week and is therefore out of warranty. I was wondering if it was worth splurging the 40% more to get a brand new model with warranty and if it lasts for years ? I'd like to try the buy it nice approach this time. Thank you for your help!

Personal Blender Capacity

Right now I have a Ninja Fit with a 16 oz blending cup. I'm looking for something with a bigger capacity. I was interested in Beast because I liked the idea of a stainless cup, but it says capacity is 700mL (23.5 oz) but the blending capacity is only 500mL (17 oz) so would that actually allow me to make a bigger smoothie? Are there other options?
