CMV: The US government should implement a universal child benefit or allowance

Personally, a child benefit seems like a no-brainer to me. For one, it's been proven to reduce child poverty by a LOT. Also, many OECD countries implement such a system. It's not like you NEED to remove the CTC or universal childcare from the agenda-just feels like this would be an extremely effective additional method. America is the richest country in the world-it can afford it. Yet, the only prominent child benefit proposal in modern times has been made by a centrist Democrat and a registered Republican (Michael Bennet and Mitt Romney). Yet many people oppose it saying it could reduce labour supply. I still feel like a child allowance would be an effective tool for reducing poverty that the government should implement. But feel free to try and change my mind. Let's discuss

What effect would a minimum wage of $15 in the US have on small businesses and labour supply?

I have heard many people express opposition to a minimum wage by saying that it would negatively impact small businesses and would reduce labour supply. I have heard some conflicting information on how big the effect would be. Would the effect really be as catastrophic as some people say?
