5 month old GSP who is really starting to develop his prey drive. He will stop and point and birds, and other things like leaves and flies, but I still don’t have his woah command dialed in.

I’m wondering if he will naturally teach him self to go slow and try to sneak onto birds to avoid them flying off or if I have to train him that, or both.

He sometimes does go slow up to his prey but I’ve seen trained bird dogs almost tip toe up to birds (game birds and song birds). My uncle says the dog will naturally slow himself down as he learns that immediately chasing the birds doesn’t get him the results he wants which is the bird.

Let me know what you guys have seen or know! This is our first dog and he’s so much fun!
